When my boy with an IS-F and I went to the drag, the 2 times i lined up with him he beat me by like a hundredth of a sec, because i had horrible 60 fts, but my personal best is 12.2 while his is like 12.8/9 i think. So my pick goes to M3

Wow. This is depressing. The best stock M3s have run here in Denver (5280ft above sea level) is 14.7 at 100

Stock for stock on a highway run, the IS-F will beat the M3. This has been proven many times when I ran with my friend. After ~110-120mph or so, the M3 will pull ahead. But by that time, what "race" really goes that far? Keep in mind that the cars are very close. The IS-F is roughly 1 car length ahead.
Once I was modified, I'm able to beat him. On the track, the M should theoretically handle better. But in any track environment, we all know it's a driver's race. I've seen Miatas beat Ferraris. In a controlled environment, M3 will win on a road course. DCT + launch control in a drag race....that's tough. I would say the M would win on that one.

Not a fan of the IS-F, but the 2011s have some nice suspension tweaks.

Expected responses on a BMW forum.
The subjective discussion on looks aside, the bottom line is that in every situation it is going to come down to a driver's race as they are that close. |

What do you expect on a BMW Forum...... You think the same question asked on a Lexus Forum would turn out any different (favouring the IS-F That is)
There is always some satisfaction knowing that at least 4 other cars....... C63, IS-F, RS4 & RS5 (5 if you count that the current Mustang 5.0 development team used the M3's performance numbers as a target) were built just to be M3 competitors.

I shopped the IS-F along with the M3 and C63. I had it last on my list mainly because of the suspension issues (the ride was WAY too stiff all the time). The engine being a transplant from the Lexus stable was uninspiring, though effective. I considered the styling to be of similar taste to the C63, though preferred the 63 by comparison, personally liked the M3 the best. None of the interiors from the 3 had a "wow" factor but I liked the BMW options. Test driving was where the M3 stood out and resulted in my purchase. (required a 4 door so RS5 was not an option).
In all Lexus is making progress but they are chasing legends in AMG and M. Both are known for making the cars vast departures from their cousin platforms. That takes an enormous investment that Lexus has not yet made. If Lexus really wants to go head to head with M and AMG, they are going to need a much larger focus from Toyota to do it. As long as the "F division" is building off a patchwork of existing Lexus equipment, it's going to have a hard time breaking into the "elite" club of M and AMG. Look no further than Audi to see how long it takes to just get into the same conversation as those two.

I mean, it is a BMW forum after all. Head over to a Lexus forum and see what type of answers you'll get. I'm pretty sure it'll be the IS-F. Then you can go over there and say "Expected responses from a Lexus forum. "
