I think a 295 in R-compound is cutting it close.

My e46 rubbed 285/30-18 PSCs on both the inner and outer sides of the rear wheel wells. When you get the suspension and tires working well together, the forces during cornering will cause the suspension bushings to yield substantially.

In the case of the e46, the inner bushings on the upper control arm allowed the tire to "decamber" (camber went less negative) during hard cornering, causing rubbing on the fender lip. Full compression caused rubbing on the id of the fender. I would not expect the e9x suspension bushings to be any less compliant.

The larger you go is not allways the proper thing to do.If you do not have the proper dynamic camber you could end up with less grip & wear the tires a lot more than going with a narrower setup that is more tolerant to less than perfect camber.I have experienced this with my C5 Zo6 trying to run 295-315 Hoosiers and discovering that a 275-305 setup was quicker.

All other things equal (same wheels) you are probably right. I assume if someone is going to go nuts on tire size that they also know to run a wide enough wheel to take advantage of that large size. I'm not saying that a 295 width PSC will work better than a 265 width PSC on stock wheels. My assumption is that if someone wants to run 295 width tires, they are mounting them on 11 inch wide wheels.

I had 10's & 11.5's so I dont think the rim width was the issue, but it also could have been a variation in the compound also. The smaller setup wore quite evenly but the larger setup had a lot more outside wear with the same camber settings & no other changes.
