World Exclusive! 2012 Lexus LFA Tested(C&D)

>>>>>>>>>LFA_TEST

The dial is to behold.

Quote:
The computers of most modern cars prevent you from doing that, but the LFA allows it. It took a few tries to get the technique perfected, but by holding the V-10 at about 3800 rpm and selecting first, and taking care not to go wide-open throttle and melt the run in wheelspin, we got a very clean, repeatable launch that dropped the 60-mph sprint time to 3.7 seconds, right on Lexus’s claim, and the quarter-mile to 11.8 seconds at 124 mph
Quote:
VEHICLE TYPE: front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 2-passenger, 2-door coupe
ESTIMATED PRICE AS TESTED: $375,000 (estimated base price: $375,000)

TRANSMISSION: 6-speed manual with automated shifting and clutch
DIMENSIONS:
Wheelbase: 102.6 in Length: 177.4 in
Width: 74.6 in Height: 48.0 in

For a supercar of this caliber, all of its performance figures are average compared to its competitors, or slightly behind. That's just disappointing IMO. You can put all the gadgets and craftsmanship in the world into the car, but if it's not the highest or one of the higher performers out there then ultimately it won't be the best.

Enzo and Reventon weren't exactly performance leaders either.

The LFA isn't supposed to be a performance bang for buck car like the GTR.

It's an engineering marvel with exclusivity and apparently Lexus-level reliability and refinement.

You have a valid point on the exclusivity issue but I will agree with other's on the below par performance.
For that amount of money, they should have spent more on technologies to make the car go fast.

I understand the technology that was involved into making this car. The Carbon Fiber unibody woven into one peice, the sophisticated gadgetry etc...

But come one, look at the dash display, they are using basic symbols for

"ABS"
"Check Battery"
"Traction Control"

Right next to that multi-million dollar digital tach?

WTF?

Oh and it weighs almost 3600 lbs. What happened to the carbon fiber and aluminum V10?

Seems like a moot vehicle to me.

Looks good, sounds nice, but isn't exactly a performer; for the money at least.

I'd take the new 997TT over that performance wise. I expected much more crushing numbers for the price.

Exactly. You'd think things like an all CF body and aluminum engine would provide weight savings but the LF-A actually weighs more than some of the other cars in this class.

You guys are hilarious.

Just curious? What does BMW have...or has ever had...that even gets in the same ballpark as the LF-A???

A ZR-1 will shit all over an AM DBS but which car would you rather have? There are more things to judge a car by than ultimate performance.

Besides, its a moot point. None of the haters will ever get the opportunity to own one even if they wanted to (because they'll all be sold)....

M3 GTS ? Ok, the price is 4 times lower but if they lap the same times, who cares ?

But what worries me is the car's design...it's just too cartoonish/childish.

I said it 6 months ago and i still stand by my assertion that this car is a monumental waste of money.

Does a "Lexus" or "Chevrolet" mean the same to you as an Aston Martin? James Bond and all?

While the DBS is universally accepted to be monumentally more pretty and better made than a ZR1, this does not win the beauty, quality or Tradition test with the Italia that easily. Come to think of it, this does not win anything.

The whole point of a hypercar is that it should make us common folk excited about the car and kill to drive it or something like that. No one is enthusiastic about this thing at all and that is a failure regardless of how not many will get to drive it.

Just Curious, how many BMW's cost $400,000? Still, i do expect the next M5 to be pretty close to this and that starts at $85,000.
