Disappointed with Akra Evo

I've had my Akra Evo setup on for a few days, and while the fit and finish of the exhaust is excellent, I'm a bit bummed out by the sound. Don't get me wrong, it sounds fine, and if it were my first exhaust I would surely be very happy. However, coming from an Eisenmann Sport I can't help but feel the Akra is just a bit soulless. To me it's just a hollow, empty sound that lacks character.

I'm going to give it another week or two to see if it grows on me, but right now I'm leaning towards picking up a Challenge xpipe and putting the Eisenmann back on.

I don't see many people here who aren't in love with the Akra, so maybe I'm just crazy.

Update: After a week with the Evo I'm starting to like it more and more. Some of the hollowness has gone away (though I do get much more resonance from the intake now - time to go back to a stock filter I guess). I also had my wife drive it around the block a few times so I could hear it from the outside, and boy does it sound good.

I think I'm keeping it.

Everyone is different. Me personally went to the Akra bc it wasn't as loud as the other full systems out there. Either way whatever you decide Im sure you won't have any issues selling the Evo if you had to.

I feel the same way. The Akrapovic sounds a LOT better from the outside than from the inside. The ultra-lightweight x-pipes make a funky resonance that you hear inside the car, which gives it the "hollow" sound. I got pretty bored of the sound when driving the car and ended up selling mine.

You can either get something else or you can make a recording of your car from the outsie (a GoPro on the rear bumper works great!) and remind yourself that it does sound awesome from the outside.

Heres something that may be helpful. I have the slip on paired with the dinan x pipe...I don't know if it sounds that much different. But I don't have any of the resonance that kitw speaks of.

Maybe try changing the xpipe?

Yep. I'm sure it will go quick if I decide to change things up.

Glad to hear I'm not alone.

Hmm, that's one option I guess.

I was leaning towards trying the Challenge Sport xpipe, but I guess Dinan is also an option.

Not sure I'm ready for a full catless setup...I've heard they're pretty smelly.

I like the weight savings and titanium but wish it were louder. Hard to come to a compromise.

just do catless, more power, and sounds great, it will still be to quiet with stock cats or even hfc, removing them will you give you the sound your looking for!

Do this and get the Dinan x-pipe. The fact that its SS, quad resonated and catless will make the Akra sound much less hollow! IMO the Dinan x pipe is the best out there

FYI- I just saw that VS Motor Sports is selling a used Dinan x pipe at a great price

jzbm3, I have been thinking of going full evo from my current Akra rear only set up. Any interest in meeting up? Would love to hear how the evo sounds.

The EVO is not much of a difference I have a slip on myself... and after hearing the EVO.. after warmed up its practically almost the same... on cruising a little louder but not a drastic change... but when you punch it it does scream... but from the outside... inside the cabin is still pretty much almost the same just a tad bit... .... catless is totally different... so if you go that route its something... but compare to any other exhaust The Akra Slip on Muffler muffles a lot of the sound... so its safe to say that you cant go wrong on both set up....

Coming from my Eisenmann Race I feel the same about my Akra Evo too. It sounds hollow and is missing something. But my friends tell me it sounds nice from the outside of the car. =/

As much as I miss the eis race for it's rawness, I don't miss the drone especially on long trips. Does the eis sport drone?

Sure, my office is at Lucent and C-470. Let me know if you want to swing by sometime.

I'd say the Akra Evo drones (if you can even call it drone) a bit more than the Eis Sport, though I bet if I added an x-pipe and went back to the Eis Sport, it would be about the same as the Evo.

Suffice it to say both have virtually no drone.

Almost pulled the trigger on the full Akra. After reading this thread, I am SO glad I didn't do it! I would be canceling that order! Although I'm sure it's a great system, I do not like the "Hollow" sound that a lot of current and past owners refer to.

I paid for the 50lbs diet and extra power. The sound it makes is just a bonus. I think it sounds good from the inside, amazing from the outside. Any louder and it would become obnoxious for a daily driver.
