Extended Leather - weight?
I'm getting ready to order a new M3 (well as soon as 2012 is available) and I am going back and forth on this option. One thing I was thinking I should consider though is the weight... Anyone know how much weight all the extra leather might add over the standard plastic option?
I was not able to find information relating to this using the search... Even the all including weight thread didn't mention this. Does that mean the difference is less than a pound maybe? Thanks guys!

Yeah, sure did. Extra weight??? Really??? You'll do better to put yourself on a diet and lose 5 pounds.

One option that is often overlooked but can offer better performance and a lower center of gravity is to use a Golytely prep before driving. You can easily clear out seven pounds that way. This will offset the sizeable performance hit of the extended leather.

OP;
To answer your question accurately I will need to know what month was your M3 built. The reason is M3 factory used to utilize Black Angus cow skin for their leather upholstery which runs about 500 grams/square meter however lately they are moving more towards the cheaper yet heavier Brown Swiss cow skin which runs roughly 0.62114 grams/square meter. Of course I’m being sarcastic for 2 reasons: 1) Drivers who care so much about weight they buy a stripped M3 and last thing on their option list is extended leather. 2) Removing the manual from the glove compartment would probably offset the weight added with the extended leather. Happy Friday

If you're worried about the weight of the extended leather, you should get 0 options. Don't forget to wear carbonfiber shoes and clotch made of special cloths so you don't add unnecessary weight as well.

Yea I'm actually going down that route. I had planned to go fully loaded but I think I like the stripper better which I didn't realize at the time but if you take speed cloth, extended leather isn't even an option it looks like.

If nou replace the air in the inflatable lumber supports with helium you can probably save a bit of weight,

No can do bud, that would be adding to the net weight with that extra key fob (even though I like lowering the COG)...
