I can picture the AC Schnitzer dealer calling the guy about getting the exhaust back to them due to a made-up recall, anything to get it off the car.
Actually the BMW dealership should be interested in that as well, since the ACS exhaust is loud, making even more people look. On a different note, the car must be a insane to drive when it's sunny out - big hood, power bulge, you can't see anything... On a lambo you can't see the front hood, since it's short & low.

As an interesting aside, a niche manufacturer by the name of Kirkham Motorsports builds all aluminum Shelby Cobras that are very faithful reproductions of the originals built in aluminum by AC in the UK in the 60's. They also supply aluminum bodies to Shelby today. Some owners choose to highly polish those such as in the picture below. Note the difference in polishing in the "meatball" on the door, which is still a brushed finish, but it's a solid piece of aluminum.

Not only that, the 'state' forced the oligarchs to 'invest' into all these companies that needed to be saved, and in term the state banks bought up a bunch of stakes in their companies. If there was one thing in Russia that used to keep the "politicians" in check, it was these oligarchs. Not anymore. After all those margin calls they got back in October most are wiped out or in debt. It's really brilliant from the putin crew, now they can rule that country as they please and no pesky businessmen are there to stop them.

I really like the polished Cobra replica. That's how you do a metalic body. And plus you can apply different finishes - everything from shiny to brushed - as that car clearly demonstrates.
Now I wonder how much it would cost to have the steel and plastic M3 body panels done up in the same aluminm as the hood (and decklid)? Probably tens of thousands. |

All the original 998 (or so) Shelby Cobras were aluminum-bodied and were hand-made using such "advanced technology" as the English wheel. However, they were all painted. It is said that no two original Cobras were the same, and they even differed from side to side.
The Kirkham re-creation body is made in Poland in a former Soviet Mig factory, by many of the same workers who used to produce those airplanes, and they use more modern techniques to make them virtually identical. They don't come polished like that, but brushed. It takes an awful lot of effort to get an entire aluminum body to that high state of polish, and I agree, it is rather spectacular. A Kirkham brushed, AL body and chassis will set you back about $60K, and you supply the rest. They build about 70 a year. Obviously, a one-off would cost a lot more.

my first thought: silver/grey cars are the colors of cars most prone to get into accidents (mostly rear ended, cause they match the color of the ground)
my second thought: this car is going to get smashed cause no one is going to be able to see it on the road! |
