Mercedes may exit F1

This has been reported in the magazine 'FOCUS' and now here on the Worldcanfans website.

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090426....-exit-possible

Quote:
Norbert Haug has been playing down the speculation in Bahrain, but back in Germany it is clear that Mercedes-Benz's involvement in formula one is very much in doubt.

The CEO of the Stuttgart marque's parent, Daimler AG, has told a German news magazine that the 'lie-gate' affair could have terminal consequences in terms of Mercedes' F1 project.

"If circumstances should change, perhaps because of an unreasonable punishment by the FIA, it is possible that we could consider our engagement," Dieter Zetsche told Focus.

The Focus publication added that the Daimler executive committee will meet to discuss possibly exiting formula one on Monday, two days before the World Motor Sport Council considers fraud charges against team partner McLaren in Paris.
This would be very bad for both F1 and motorsport in general.

Looks to me like Mercedes is just using this as a threat so the FIA won't hand down to big of a punishment.

Sort of like "Fine you want to punish us, then we won't support your sport"

Sounds like a smart tactic to me. Screw FIA.

Ferrari is b*tching as well about quitting. They say that if things don't turn around this season, they may pull out.

WTF is this? McLaren makes one mistake and Merc wants to pull out despite Button's pole sitting Brawn utilizing a Mercedes engine (and even better prospects with principal offers from Branson, etc) and Ferrari has one shitty season due to all the changes and KERS and they want to leave?

BMW is s*cking major a*s but they aren't talking about quitting. My guess is that next time they won't show off that they finished their car first. And hopefully Kubica stops driving like an arse...

If they too have a shitty season then I wouldn't be at all surprised if they consider leaving the sport for a form that gives them a better chance of winning without the excessive amounts of money that is ever present in F1.

F1 "rant"

This all started with the mandated wing and spolier design mandate. Makes all cars perform the same. That braking system that charges the battery for an extra 80 h.p. is the biggest gimmick in the sport, what a waste of money and extra weight in the race car. They need to go back to 2007 rules. Brawn GP has the best engineer in the buisness in FIA, thats why they are ruling the F1 grid for now. BMW Kubica will come around in the Spanish GP....

I hope so. And I sure hope BMW doesn't pull out. Even if they do moderately well, its great for their motorsport image...they take part in the most technically challenging sport in existence.

I think that with the whole diffuser controversy and the current economic state, the companies who are doing poorly & missed out on the new diffuser design are truly considering that it might be time to jump ship. there has been way too much drama in F1 this season. its always more BS. if mercedes is looking at a big punishment, i honestly wouldn't blame them.

Maybe rather than quitting F1 Mercedes should reconsider associating its brand with a group of self-confessed liars and proven cheats, like McLaren.

+1

Just goes to show MB and Ferrari can't handle other teams actually being competitive against them. What a bunch of bitchy cry babies.

I think you may be right! Don´t think Mercedes seeks to exit F1 either. But maybe unreasonable punishment may have something to do with it.

Hahaha!! Bunch of BS anyway! FIA has gone way too far this time in the first place.
