New E92 Owner

Hi Guys,

New member to the forum & thought I would introduce myself, I have been as keen on these cars for as long as I remember & I now finally have one which is very exciting.

A bit of info about me - I'm Melbourne based (would love to meet up with other Melbourne M3 owners a meet at some stage is happening) and still very new to the whole M ownership. Im pretty savvy about the car & come from a long line of car enthusiasts. I used to drive an RX-8 so this is a bit of an upgrade, but I know all about high revving engines and looking after them. I also do all maintenance myself and will continue to do so as long as I can.

A bit about the car - she is an 2008 Melbourne Red, 30,000km on the clock, carbon Roof, Manuel - everything is stock at this stage and I think I will leave it that way - the only Mod I would be interested in doing is the Rear Taillight conversion, has anyone on the forum from Aus done this? Thoughts? Ideas? people to best discuss with?
Got some ideas from here - http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=386823&page=2

Anyway, Looking forward to meeting/chatting & and being part of this community.

Cheers,
Chris

The Fun begins now! Welcome on board. She looks tidy and clean. Good KMs for a 2008.
Red is rare in WA but I reckon if you did a red and black theme it would look very nice.

Welcome to the BMW and /// family. Now keep a tissue to wipe that grin off your face every time you look at the car and drive it.

Nice colour. Enjoy!

Where have you been my friend ... haven't seen being active on the board lately.

I have a three very tiny rock chips on the hood. If I touch it up it will make it worse.

I assume you mean the LCI LED tail lights. I have done this and it works fine. You only need to get them coded.
Make sure when you buy the lights that you also get the adapter leads as the plugs are different.

Yes, sorry, thanks - still a little behind on the lingo

It seems easy to get the LCI lights from BMW Aust. but they are hella expencive (I have been quoted around $1000) any idea where they would be cheaper? I'm not really interested in knock offs, genuine ones would be best (unless there is no real difference)

This is good advice. Thanks. where did you go to get it converted? I have been given two quotes (depending on how old the system is)

When you go for the LCI taillights there are 2 versions....
1- US version has red blinkers
2- Euro version has amber blinkers and actualy looks way better !
Euro version has also the emergency break light....stop lights starts to blink with a emergency break and also when ABS is working !

I saw this beast on carsales a couple weeks ago. Good work!

You can get the tail lights from toby in UK because the american version would have different coloured blinkers and toby is well priced. http://www.bmminiparts.com/

Prob easiest to email him with your VIN.

I think you need

7251958
7251957
7252780
7252779

Plus 1 set of the adapter cables which you'd have to search part number.

Or boys at BMR have them http://bmrautowerkes.com.au/products...lcitaillights/

You'll then need to get "bulb check" disabled for tailights which can be done with any workshop that use autologic or BMW software.

Yes, under hard braking an additional brake light comes on. See it at the track

Good to hear your're well. Suck is life ... work, work and work. It sucks. But you need to, to keep the /// on the road .

No, I haven't been in touch with Mike for a while. Normally I chat to him on skype. I will email and see whether he has a copy for me.

Keep in touch and good luck!

Brilliant! This is exactly what I need. I will defiantly be going for the EU version, see I learn something new today, didn't even occur to me there would be differences between the US and EU ones.

Ill do some serious inquiries into it when Christmas is over,

The lights are very easy to remove and replace, 10mins max each side.
You need to find someone to code them in Melbourne. I had a guy in Sydney do it for me. You should be able to get them for a lot less than $1000.
Coding could be around $50.00 and you can get other options coded as well
like removing the idrive disclaimer and TV in motion etc. There are lists available somewhere on this forum to let you know what can be done.㤀

You can combine the coding with a tune from BPM (Mike Benvo). He's very good and has done a lot of Aussie cars. I think a tune is a must for the ///3 to iron out some OEM dislikes.

Dont think I will go for a tune at the moment, as Im still a newbe in terms of driving this beast - therefore dont know what is good/bad. the car has only done around 30,000km so its still tight as a drum.
