BMW Been Listening? Visible Muffler Fix?

I have taken two screen captures from the most recent video posted HERE.

It appears to me that the visible underbelly of the muffler is no longer seen. I can barely make some of the muffler out in the first pic, just past the rear bumper, but nowhere close to what it was before.
Has BMW been listening to us? I sure hope so. This would make me extremely happy.

See for yourself below. And damn those 19s look huge in the bottom picture!

edit: I don't know, the more I look at it, the more I can still see it. Just looks less noticeable though.

Is that important for some reason other than aesthetics? I kind of like the exhaust being more open, keep is cooler.

Could be that it doesn't stand out against the white body colour like it normally does.

Looks promising

I can only see the first pic on my PDA but it does look like the plastic has been extended lower and around the muffler. BMW may have been listening, but likely to others, prob. not much to our little forum.

Like you if the is "fixed" I'll be thrilled.

Unfortunately when watching the video it doesn't look like they changed anything. I think it is just the contrast of the metal and the white and also the quality of the video.

Yes, a possibility I considered as well.
I want to believe they fixed it....

Looks much better if they did indeed conceal it. There is nothing aesthetic about a muffler.

Agree with the above. It just blends in more with the white and since the video is low-res, it's harder to differentiate.

When I was behind the Interlagos car, the muffler definitely didn't seem as noticable as it has looked in pics. I think in motion, as a whole, it looks OK. It could still be better though! If that puppy starts to "rust" at the welds where the tips are, it's going to be an eyesore. JMHO

Good Find

I'm sure BMW is listening, good find Epacy!

If we take a look at the pictures from website and photo shoots, the exposed muffler can be seen since lower bumper didn't extend around the exhaust tips. If we look closely at the photos extracted by Epacy, it's not just the white color contrast, the quad exhaust tips are surrounding by the lower bumper must like Porsche did.

This is the exposed muffler from press photos, and see the lower half semi-circle of exhaust tips are completely exposed.

I just saw an Alpine white M3 at the Canary Wharf motoexpo.. in London. It was kept in hidden room.....

Basically I had to get on all fours to see the muffler..... IMO it wont be as visible as some of the pictures suggest....

Good find Epacy, you are correct about BMW changing the rearend to hide the muffler. Don't rely on the pics above, just go to bmw.de because the M3 is on their car configurator. If you pull up the M3 and look at the rear view it is obvious they have extended the body to cover the muffler in between the exhaust tips.

One extra reason to order it Alpine white!!
I have a question, is it final that heads up display and the active sides on the seats will not be available in the m3?

Reconsidering

After seeing the pics and vid on a regular computer I am going to reconsider. It does look like a redesign but I think I can also see that the white body just blends with the muffler color especially given the ambience of the film. It is way too late in the release phase to have a fairly major redesign of an exterior body panel. Too bad it does look so much better to "wrap" around and fully enclose the pipes.

I wonder if they could conceal the muffler further without concern about heat affecting (discoloring, warping, whatever) the material of the valence.

The E46 muffler is a similar design and it is covered (check my sigpic).

decide for yourself

The mesh area def looks straighter on the new than on the concept. The valence has also been added to (although quite difficult on the concept photo).

Yeah, they new back valance looks ALOT better..! I didn't like the fact you could see the mufflers and exhaust plumbing on the earlier pictures.

Now all BMW needs is a new interior scheem (driver centric) and I will buy one.
