DVD playback
I dont have navigation but I was wondering if our BMW 3 series/ M3 nav system could play DVD? I was checking out a friend C63 today and his can play movies and has a memory card reader and stuffs. Thought it was neat.

Pretty sure the player is CD only, but not positive. And through the USB port you can upload music with a memory stick. The september build supposedly allows album covers but don't think you can upload pics etc.

Yes you can play a DVD movie. You can only watch while parked unless you mod it.

Check to see if your car comes with region coding for DVD although I believe it can play DVD movies when at a standstill. The screen goes black when you drive off but you still get audio. I stand to correction on this though.

You can play CD's and DVD through your player. Load it in the slot and it will recognize it. I think starting in '09 the nav is hard drive based.

Just a thought, if it says CD/Multimedia, it sounds like it will play a DVD so maybe put a dvd in when the car is at a standstill and see what happens.

I just tried watching a movie in my '11 with Enhanced Premium Sound and Technology Pkg and it sounded great! Granted, it was a concert DVD with a DTS soundtrack, but I was impressed.
The picture wasn't bad - not the biggest screen but adequate. The zoom feature filled the screen, but a good amount of the picture was cropped. I need to try out more movies. Any suggestions for other audibly impressive movies? Also, does the car play 5.1 (or more) sound using a distinct center channel and/or rear left/right channels? |

No. Down mixes everything to 2.0 stereo. One of my biggest disappointments with this car. My 5 year old Toyota had 5.1 true sound for DVD-A. What a waste.

So important question here is how do you mod the screen so you can watch dvd's while driving?
Not for me..for the kids. When I used to have Kenwood in dash DVD players you only needed to bypass one ebrake wire. Not sure if it's similar with this, or are the e9x M3s that much smarter.
