how much do you value Safety ?

So a friend and i were looking at cars last week for fun. Looking at a C7 corvette, and realized something about the car. It doesn't look like a very safe car. Sits really low the the ground and cabin is tight (good thing), also looks small and aggressive. I really liked the looks tough.

After getting back into my M3 i noticed i felt a lot safer in this car. more cabin space, higher ride height, heavier etc. Yet still a really fun car IMO. I am not saying the M3 is a really safe car, more so i like the "balance" more of the overall package. luxury, performance, looks, and safety.

I just wanted to get some of you thoughts on this topic, am i am thinking right?

Believe it or not, the C7 (and for that matter the C5 & C6) Vettes are actually a lot more crash-worthy than they look...

I've not had personal experience (thankfully), but know of some pretty bad wrecks that were survived.

Obviously a 7000 lb SUV is safer than a 3500 lb sports car in a collision, but these cars were made with speed in mind so safety was a strong point in its engineering. Lamborghinis don't look safe either but they've been engineered to crumple in ways that save the occupants' lives.

Not necessarily true, the SUV would carry twice the momentum in a crash and if not designed correctly all that energy would be transferred to other places, including the driver and passenger/s in the cabin.

The only time I ever thought about this/felt unsafe when I was test driving a Lotus Elise. Talk about a small car with a cramped cabin.

Dude, engineering is a wonderful thing. I just bought a 2700 lb sportscar car that is a IIHS top safety pick. Certainly NOT why I bought it but don't go by looks and feel unless you are indeed an engineer. If I'd gone by that I woulda thought the car was complete crap in a collision. Hell, my car even passed(acceptable) the "small overlap" frontal test(the widow maker) which NOBODY passes. Who knew...
I'm sure a C7 is quite safe.
