There's a local shop that has Autologic. Eurotech in Winter Park.

I'll bet the local shop was just going to let the engine idle while coding the lights to the car. Does that sound safe?

No. Depending on specifics, most modules need to stay within a range of 13.5-14.5V and no loads on the sytem during flashing. Simply idling the vehicle doesn't guarantee voltage will stay within that range, If that was the case - I wouldn't of had to purchase a $1500 power supply. For me, it's cheap insurance against potential issues when working on your pride and joy.

He might get away with it once or even a handful of times - but Murphy's Law may apply to your case. I wouldn't chance it.

there is a retrofit path from BMW. It is in the latest ETK. You need to get the lights, the plug and play cable and footwell module 3, and have the FWM3 coded at the dealer

Will be more expensive than the EAS route as a new FWM3 is needed

I can confirm this as well. Despite the cancellation of the E92 LCI Black Lines, it looks like BMW will still be developing a retrofit cable for pre-LCI E92s, and a reflash will be necessary. I'm curious to know how this coding will be different than EAS's current approach.

My take and I could be very wrong but in essence EAS' approach is not very different but much cheaper. The BMW path changes the hardware to match the software (ie the FWM3) whereas EAS changes the current FWM to emulate FWM3. The retrofit is has been released with part numbers

I think these are the part numbers

1. 61122181307 - cable
2 63217251957 - lights L
3. 63217251958 - lights R
4. 63217252779 - lights L
5. 63217252780 - lights R
6. 61359230445 - FWM 3

maybe one of the vendors can confirm. I know Tischer is checking

Those are the Euro-spec lights with the amber turn signals (which I prefer to our red turn signals). The US-spec light PNs are 63217251959 and 63217251960.

Is that module really necessary, also do I need to order 2 of those cables or is it a kit?

In some cases when using Autologic coding, replacement of FRM2 to FRM3 is required until they find a solution to code FRM2. So, as of today not every car can be codded to fit this retrofit. Tom can correct me if I am wrong.

So if this is true, how do 1 know if his car car/cannot be coded prior to trying to code the car.

That module is absolutely necessary if going the BMW route.

Add about $200 for the FRM3, not including labor + coding from your dealer.

The module is $304 alone, and that's after the standard Tischer discount. Yikes.

The two cables are relatively cheap, though.

Tom, does coding away BulbCheck also remove the flicker of any LED coronas during startup (assuming the owner has their lights set to Auto and DRL to on)?

No, we do not touch the headlights.

I unfortunately live in Australia, so I have ordered the amber lights and 2x cables from bmminiparts.com in the UK.

I am hoping after installing the hardware I can just remove the bulb checks and everything will be fine... or will I have to go to dealer?
