Track Day - Helmets

Been to a few track days with the dealer at Mosport and after now moding my car I'm hooked. At the track days I went to I don't think anyone had a helmet, but now that I'm looking into other events some require them and others leave it as optional. With my Wife reminding me of my three beautiful kids the search is on for a helmet. Any advice??

Brand?
Style?
Cost?
Where to but in GTA?? I found CSC Racing but that about it.

The key to a helmet for tracking is to make sure it is SA2005 or SA2010. The rating is good for 10 years (so SA2005 is only good for a couple more years).

As long as you've got an SA rated helmet, don't worry about brand so much, worry about how it fits. Each brand has a slightly different fit, and you will want to get the most comfortable/lightest one that fits your budget.

As for cost, that's up to you. a helmet can cost $200, or $2000, you need to set your budget, but again, as long as its SA rated you're good.

Other places to find a helmet include:

Paragon Competition
SportsCarBoutique
JRP Online
and CSC Racing is definitely a good place to check out.

Any motorcycle shop should carry some helmets.
Personally I like Arai the best, maybe because their helmets fit Asian head shape better.
Other brands to check out: bell, hjc, shoei?

+ 1 for CSC Racing. Jennifer will take good care of you, she'll make sure you get the correct size helmet.

I found that helmets are like shoes...some fit perfect and others just don't feel right. For me it's Bell all the way!

Good Luck!

Some groups will not accept motorcycle helmets for track days as they are designed for a single impact only.Better to get an SA rated lid.

Thanks!! Great tips!!! Going for the SA for sure. I figure a budget of $500 will get me a quality lid.

I just bought a Bell BR-1 (SA2010) for $350 from a local motorcycle shop (it's an automotive helmet though). Hopefully, I'll get to use it soon!
