Had about 5 sets of wheels/tires combination include CH-R 20s with 255/30 and 285/30 setup. I liked the look of it but ride quality wasn't great (wasn't too bad either) but lost confidence of harr cornering as I can feel the weakness of small sidewall.
So I went with TE37SL in 18s. Got my confidence back of hard cornering and I'm happy with its comfy ride too. It used to be +1" wheels were cool in E46M3 days but it looks like our trend changed and a lot of folks are in for -1" setup these days as well.

20s do look great when done right, but too many drawbacks on daily use. If the car is a garage queen with no plans for hard or daily driving, I guess it would be fine.

Went from 18" to 19" and now 20"... no regrets. However, I like squared sets and light wheels. Meaning, even with 20" and 265/30/20 tires -which are lighter than the 19" and about equal with the 18" wheel tire combo- the ride is still the same to me and the handling about the same or slightly better as the squared set and the lower profile provide tighter turn in and significantly less understeer.
PS2 tires also help quite some with the ride and handling. This is a daily driver, 12000 miles a year or so. If you live at Pothole, USA 69000 then don't do it, though. |

Love my 20s although the ride can be a bit harsh and they kinda drag their heels getting up to speed. Also I'm always vigilant for potholes, but the anxiety gets upped a notch with 20s on.
20s for the road, 18s for the track

20" regret?
I don't track this car. I just use it to get me from point A to point B quickly and comfortably. I have the usual car enthusiasts OCD and I love the fact that I can easily hand clean these wheels / inside and out without removing them. Handling is great! 10.5" rears and 9" on the front ET28 on both - no rubbing under any circumstances.

I have had 20's, 19's, and 18's. From a style perspective... You will notice that many people on this forum have been trending towards smaller wheels for the track oriented look. 20's are more of a street style look. 19's and 18's are your best option from a true performance perspective. You probably already know the negatives of 20's - worse ride quality, higher cost wheels and tires, more susceptible to damage, higher weight, lower grip, and you are much more limited in tire sizing (255's are widest option for the front on 20's while you can run 275's with 18's or 19's). My opinion is that 20's can look good and, if you buy a light-weight wheel, the negative performance impact can be minimal. That being said, I would not get 20's again. I honestly think 19's look better and 18's look especially good on lowered cars. If they don't look better then there is no point IMO. I hope this helps.
