E93 vs E60
Hey guys,
I realize how absurd this may seem as they are both very different. I would probably pick the E93 if it weren't so heavy, and it seems as though it is actually quite slow due to the added weight... Last edited by PetitPimousse; 07-11-2012 at 09:03 PM.. |

E60 M5 is no light weight. The gas mileage in that thing is terrible, like make you cry terrible.
Why do you want to add a car, if you already have a E90 M3? If a vert is something that intrigues you, just go for a E89 35is. That car looks great and is probably a blast to drive. |

That thing is beautiful and a blast to drive. If you're set on picking between the E93 and E60, go for the E60! You already own an M3 and buying another one JUST so you can have a convertible makes no sense to me! It's a convertible so you're obviously not after performance as a priority. Hell, I would even take an E93 335i over an E93 M3 if I already owned an E90 M3. Two of the same cars just don't make sense to me, but at the end, it's all up to you and you'll still be in awesome cars!

Depends on what you're looking for. Do you want a car you can cruise with the top down that's still pretty fast, or a highway missile that can hold 4 passengers and their luggage comfortably?
I hope you realize the M5 gets much worse mileage (around 12 mpg), and combined with a small fuel tank, you get around 170 miles total. Plus, this car drinks oil every 1-3k miles. If you can live with all that, then its a blast to drive!

M5 does come in manual gearbox and it is savage.... Off the line my m3 and his m5 are pretty even but when you are in his car it seems so urgent and brutal that you can't help but think its faster. You got an m3, be a renaissance man and get an m5.

Completely different needs IMO. I loved my M5 & my M3.
Gas Mileage in M5 doing everything 'right' is 14 MPG... if that matters? Luxury Cruisin' & Comfort in M5 second to none. Convertible vs. Sedan etc... Tough choices!

I don't know about the M3 engine but that big V10 has an expensive tendency to go *boom*. And an engine replace is over $20k.

You can always trade in the man-card if you want the wind in your hair and freedom from a lighter car and stiffer chassis!
Then again... this doesn't look half bad... |

Do you have any evidence of this? I only know of the SMG problems on the early year M5's and a few that had VANOS issues. Never heard of guys blowing their engines though.

I had an M6 and lost a cylinder. Bye bye for a month. A buddy of mines M5 took a dump. They're awful engines. They go through oil like a 72 Chevette.

I love the M5 but I would prefer an E93 M3. The added weight is negligible. And when the top is down I promise you that you couldn't give a damn. DCT is superior to SMG III as well. All my cars have always been stick but DCT truly mind-f@cked me, its really great technology.
