Not a fan of the styling but sounds like a fun car! Those brake disks are ridiculously small! The calipers look too big for the disks and the red calipers look over the top. The chrome trim also does not look right-its like the top half of the car is traditional and the bottom half is over the top aggressive.

I preferred the sedan in looks. Gobs of torque sounds fun and the next m3 will clearly answer that.

Nice to mix things Up-I agree. Looks like the most capable merc yet! Congrats and have fun. (and get some new brakes-that skinny back rotor makes me cringe looks wise

Congrats on the new car Heath!

Looks like the weather is still nice there too. Hope you get to enjoy the car for a little while longer before the snow flies.

The rotors are actually the same size as the M3. They look a little smaller because the 6 piston caliper is so large compared to the M3's. Similar to an after market big brake kit for the M3. But, in the end, it is all about preference because I really love the red calipers... it was one of the reasons I wanted the performance package... red calipers with the red seats = But maybe not for everyone.

I agree on the chrome... I hate chrome on performance cars. I replaced my M3's front grille and I will deal with the chrome on this car as well

C63 sucks unless you are driving in C (comfort) auto mode and I never do. I drive in manual mode and am heavy on the gas.

True... very similar overall but different people will prefer the characteristics of one car or the other. There are things I love about both. Here would be car nirvana... combine the two into one. The torque, power, interior, exhaust and brakes of the C63... the chassis, suspension and weight of the M3... Other than the turbo (and associated negative aspects of that), the next M3 could in theory be all of this. Fingers crossed.

I have had trouble understanding this in the past and these brakes are a perfect example. Perhaps the overall diameter of the rotor is the same as the M3 (I did not know until you told me) but the "cross sectional" area of the rotor face is a lot less on this car and other cars with large diameter rotors. Another one that comes to mind is a g37-the diameter is quite large but the actual rotor face has much less cross sectional area. That is the problem with stating rotor measurments in diameter, it does not take into account how much rotor area is available.

Do you know what I mean? Its like a donut that is equal in diameter only has a center hole that is 3 times larger, meaning there is a lot less "donut" even though the donut is the same in diameter! mmmm donuts-need to go get some now

That is the part that looks odd-its the rotor material is skinny, even though they might be very large diameter?

Speaking of that, to me you are losing a lot of material that can participate in heat dissipation. Something I have been wanting to understand so if someone or gthal can explain this I would be grateful!

Would be fun to have both this and an m3! Now that would be fun times

Congrats and a great write up. Believe both are great rides that most gear heads appreciate. Love those seats...

You should take another look at that those rotors, they have quite a bit of "face" area. I can assure you the Pad "face" area on that brake setup is much larger than that of the M3.

Any how, those 6 pot brembos with more pad are not going to give up anywhere near as easily as the 2 piston brakes on our M3's given the same weight, power etc. Im sure the brakes on this C63 will out perform our M3's lap to lap to lap.

Ok well clearly you are blind for one. Second forget this example even-question was a general question with larger diameter brakes that have less surface area. Is it the surface area or the diameter of the rotors that makes a difference in braking ability to resist heat. My guess is surface area but I obviously do not know so I am asking.

Look at the rear rotors on this car. The amount of (profile area-if comparing to a tire with lower profiel v. higher profile tires) is much shorter on the merc. It is not a criticism, its just stating a fact. Not saying they are worse brakes..

People if you need glasses put them on before you make posts that make you sound like you are blind or dumb!

Very simple, I will measure my rotors tomorrow with a digital calipers and get the area of the annulus. You do the same and we will compare them.
