couple question on the data. i just had a chance to go over it for my last track day. how do i make my plot when i overlap 2 laps on gps speed different colors? each lap i add just shows as pink so they get bunched together. also is the only data point i have gps speed with the solo. thought i would have g force data as well to show acceleration, braking and cornering forces.

Click on the colors under the red arrow to change display color.

You should have all the channels listed on the left side.

okay i see now how to add the other funtions but what i mean is like gps speed is in pink. when i overlay to gps speed laps they both are pink. if i want to look at the same parameter from different laps can i change their color so i can see where im faster and slower easier?

Richard:

So basically what more do I get with the DL over the base Solo?

The base Solo still give you lat/long. Gs to indicated brake, accelerating and cornering right?

What extra info does the DL give you
_when hooked up to OBD2?
_when hooked up to ECU?

Thanks!

In both Solo and Solo DL, you get s/p/G data (GPS speed, GPS position, and G's) + lap times and predictive lap timing.

Solo DL, in addition, allows you to connect to and download data from the ECU.

For the M3, here are the additional data channels you get using a CAN connection to the ECU. Some of these data channels are extremely valuable, i.e. Gas Pedal Position, Brake Pressure, Steering Wheel Angle, etc.

For example, when braking, brake pressure is a more precise indication of your brake point, so is steering wheel angel for cornering.

Are you spinning your inside wheel coming out of a corner? Just check the individual wheel speed.

RPM
Gas Pedal Position
Speed, Indicated
Speed, Real
Wheel Speed, LF
Wheel Speed, RF
Wheel Speed, LR
Wheel Speed, RR
Steering Angle
Clutch Switch
Brake Switch
Brake Pressure
Brake Pressure, LF
Brake Pressure, RF
Brake Pressure, LR
Brake Pressure, RR
Engine Coolant Temperature
Oil Temperature
Outside Temperature
Manifold Absolute Pressure
Gear
Acceleration, Long
Acceleration, Lat
Gyro
Fuel Injection
Distance
Fuel
Battery

OBDII connection on the other hand, only gives you about 9 channels of data.

Richard,

That document and your explanations of the Solo systems are a great resource. Thank you.

Being a long time Racepak IQ3 and traqmate user, the Solo DL is on my short list of dataloggers for next year. The other system on my list is a Pista MXL but at this writing I am exploring temporary/event based dash mounting solutions but at the end of the day the solo may be the solution for me less a key feature: shift lights. Been driving by the lights for 3 years and consider that a key element.

I loved racing/driving by the lights and looking at predictive lap timing. Any idea if external shift light integration is possible with the solo? Video wise I got a smartycam but was not happy with it during my initial outing earlier this year.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

What are the 9 channels of data you get via OBD2?

Good stuff Richard, you are a tremendous resource here.

Do you know if you can play back a video from a smarty cam side by side with RM2 data, like you can with a Traqmate? I've been getting mixed answers to this. Some say yes, some say RM3, and some say it's easy to go from the segment analysis directly to the spot on the video.

Currently, AiM does not offer an independent shift light cluster. All of its clusters are integrated with a dash, which you will have to mount right behind the steering wheel so that it's in your field of vision.

For 2013, the MXL is gone. It is being replaced by MXL2. MyChron3 is also being replaced by G-Dash. Both have shift light clusters.

I agree that the SmartyCam firmware/software could be hard to use, but typically once you have it set up, it works very well. For 2013, the new SmartyCam HD and its firmware will be much improved! If you have any questions setting up your SmartyCam, feel free to PM or email me.
