DINAN ECU Tune - Can't "Get Vehicle Info"

Hey guys - my Dinan ECU flash tune came in today. The DIY version.

I have a Mac and I am running Parallels and a Virtual Machine with Windows 11.

When I plug the DCAN into the OBD port and plug the USB into my computer, I can start the Dinan sofware perfectly fine and the USB is connected to the PC virtual machine, but I continue to get the following pop up when I click "Get Vehicle Info" I am doing everything that it says, but when I click "ok" nothing happens...

Any thoughts? Could it be since I'm using a virtual machine? Windows 11?

Are you sure you have the port settings for your cable correct and the latency set to 1ms?

I am new to this kinda stuff, so I will absolutely check.

What exactly should the port settings be for the cable? I will make sure latency is 1ms.

Will be checking in the morning.

Thanks!

Not sure about your specific cable but try com1 port first.

Definitely make sure the com setting ms are as specified. Beware of risks of flashing without a power source providing steady voltage. It is not usually a problem but can be a problem.

Thank you!

I was planning on having my mechanic/technician (at MRF Engineering in Lake Forrest) help with the flash when I take the car in to have my valve covers done. I bought the car second hand with ~77k miles. Went to get rod bearings replaced with MRF and he caught that my valve covers were leaking. He said he's done a ton of these flashes and that he'd assist when I bring my car in (tomorrow!) for the valve cover replacements, so I definitely trust, but I wanted to make sure everything was working on my computer's end. I imagine he can use his computer if necessary, and I'll just log in to my Dinan client portal account on his computer if we can't use mine.

If it helps, here are screenshots of my port settings.

I'm running and ARM version of Windows 11 on a 2021 MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip (ARM chip). Not really sure if that matters/is throwing anything off.

Thanks again for the assistance here!

MRF will be able to help; you don’t need to know how to do anything. I was not impressed by the Dinan tune. I did like the Epic Race Tune.

Thank you! I will have MRF do everything

I should have done some additional research, as people have said the Dinan tune isn't very noticeable. My G80 is my daily, so I just wanted a *little* extra/better map with the Dinan tune on my e92.

Mostly excited for the free flow axle back exhaust! (Didn't want anything obnoxious, and definitely wanted the car to continue to be CA emissions compliant, and the Dinan exhaust was the closest to OEM with adding a little extra "grunt", especially at lower revs, from what I've researched, especially for the price)

Only reason I got the Dinan tune was cause its CARB legal.

This was also something important to me - making sure that I will be okay with emissions/CA regulations and not need to go back to stock and then re-flash.

By way of update:

MRF tried to do the tune install, and the DCAN wouldn't connect to the car at all. ... there is evidence that there might be a tune on the car already (Malek at MRF mentioned that the cold start seemed "mellow" and that the steering was stiffer than he thought it should be for a stock car). There was no way to tell definitively, though, and MRF doesn't focus specifically in flash tuning, although they absolutely know their stuff!

I will be contacting DINAN directly to see if there is anything that they can do, or otherwise try and see if a local coder in West LA might be able to do a scan and see what's up with the car and possibly put it back to absolutely stock/factory and then add the DINAN stage 1 tune.

UPDATE for anyone following:

It seems like the Dinan software needed to be set to be run by an "administrator" on the computer's advanced settings. For some reason, it was not set to this by default.

Also, ran the program in "compatibility mode" running Windows 7 (instead of Windows 11).

The tune took about 12 minutes to install and the software allowed me to view and clear codes. Very happy with the tune so far!

Epic is hands down is one of the best tunes on the market. Dinan has very little gains, if any.

I can not speak to the Dinan portion personally (though my own research has confirmed what Tom said above), I do however absolutely agree with tune from Epic advice. It seems the safest and is generally one of the higher performing tunes, according to the Dyno database for NA cars.

I'm actually really enjoying the Dinan Stage 1!

There is actually a very noticeable increase in torque at the low end, and it is slightly (but noticeably) faster. The car honestly seems to drive smoother as well, whether in full power/M mode or just in comfort drive mode!

It also sounds absolutely amazing with just the free flow axle-back exhaust; perfect balance of loud but not obnoxious.

I'm sure there are better and "faster" tunes out there, but I like that this keeps everything mostly OEM with just a little remap. If I want to accelerate to illegal speeds too quickly, I jump in the G80 xdrive
