Blew a tire on the 405

Man, this sucks. I was on my way down to Long Beach this morning when I got a tire pressure alarm for my right rear. I pulled into a parking lot and checked the pressure and it was at 28psi. The other 3 tires were at 36psi. I didn't think it was a big deal, I thought maybe I had a slow leak through the valve stem or something. So I put in some air at a gas station and got back on the interstate. About 10 minutes later the TPMS alarm went off again. At first I thought I didn't reset it correctly but then I could hear and feel more noise coming from the right rear. I was in a really bad place to pull over so I crawled to the next exit.

I called BMW Roadside and they sent a flatbed. They took my car to Center BMW, which is where it's at now. When we brought the car off of the flatbed the underside of the front bumper scraped so bad, as if this shit with the tire wasn't enough of a headache.

Center is still looking at the car, they haven't said what caused the tire to deflate so quickly. They also said that rim may be bent. I'm so pissed about the entire thing. I haven't had these Volks on my car for more than 2 months and already one of them may be ruined. I'm pretty much over this shit, I think when the F10 5 series comes out I'm going to trade in my M3 and just get 'normal' cars from now on.

Or you could just go back to stock... the M3 is pretty practical when left at stock height and on stock 18" wheels/tires.

Sorry to hear about your problems!

Sorry to hear about the crappy day. Was it the same one that was curbed few weeks ago?

But no, you cant leave us over a cursed wheel.

Need a better reason than that!

Yeah, it happened right before the exit to the Skirball Center and Mulholland Dr. I ended up limping into the loading dock area at the Skirball Center because it was the only place I could find with enough room for a flatbed.

That sucks. The 405 (actually any LA freeway) is harsh on our Ms. Hopefully it's nothing major. I actually popped a couple airbags out of the drivers side door hitting a pothole in my old E46 by LAX. Bent a ZCP rim and destroyed a PS2. I feel your pain.

No more 19s for me.

I had two flats in September with the 19s on my 335i, one in Michigan and one near home. I've always had 18s on my M3s and I've never had a flat; on my third now - touch wood.

Sorry to hear man, Volks arn't exactly cheap rims I feel your pain though. Driving down the 405 is one hell of a adventure lol. Slightly bent all 4 of my Type III driving down . Got a friend to check it out and he said it's not the worse he's seen and that its pretty minor, but eh *shrug*I always try to find longer routes to avoid the 405 at all possible cost these days xD

It's the same rim. I suppose it could be related, but I doubt it - when I nicked that rim on the curb it was at less than 1mph.

I guess I'll find out on Monday if just the tire needs to be replaced or if it's gonna be both. The thing I'm wondering is if the rim needs to be replaced is how long it's going to take to get one delivered.

The 5 and the 405 are so shitty! It's as if Potenza, Bridgestone and Michellin designed them to create wear and tear on our tires (in general). The 5/405 are made and maintained terribly.

I hear you on trading it in for a 'normal' car. Just requires that much more attention when you mod it.

Wouldn't have mattered since I was on my way to the BMW dealership to get my 15k oil service. Irony!

I had a valvestem leak when I had my 18" TE 37s put on. Amazing how fast the air came out. Good luck with your wheel.

I had a flat the other day as well and in addition I overfilled the oil due to a bad oil sensor. They had to flatbed it but the guy took about 30 minutes using two piece of wood and alternating so I wouldn't scrape, I've got a molded front end and its dropped. Then he was nice enough tp find a spot at the dealer that sloped so the front would come off easier, no scrape at all. He said I should get 2 6x4 and angle at the end and carry in my trunk in case i have to have it transported again. It can be done and wasn't that big of a deal.

When you put the car on the truck did they bring it up from the front or the rear? I had them bring the car onto the truck backwards, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I'll have to remember the wood trick. I'd like to know how exotic owners deal with this. A Lambo is lower than an M3, even with their hydraulic lift setups.

He brought the truck up from the rear and my car is so low you can't even get a jack under it to begin with to change a tire. As I said it was slow going but the wood, 4" thick with an angle cut into it made the difference. As I said he had to alternate side to side. I sat in the drivers seat as the car was being brought up to keep the wheel straight so it wouldn't slide off the plank. Getting it down was tricky to, finding the rght grade on the lot made the difference. My husband brought up a good point about doing this to a car. What if I was stuck on the expressway, no spare in the trunk and no way to get the car safely on a flatbed. I was lucky this time with the right guy falling for a girl in distress. I plan on keeping that wood in the trunk, as far as a spare only for a long trip I guess. I'm not sure what to do.
