My negotiating experience.. what do you think?

My CA tells me that if I order a 2008 MDCT M3 it won't arrive until December due to allocations. Is this true, or is he just trying to push one of the 6MT's currently in their lot?

The dealer has 2 2008 MDCT's in their inventory, but he won't even give me them for MSRP (that's ridiculous right??). He started with 5k markup, at which point I laughed for about 10 minutes and said I want it somewhere BELOW MSRP, he said he maybe able to bring the markup down, but the car isn't leaving the lot at MSRP or lower.

Additionally, he stated if I order an MDCT, it won't be going for below MSRP (he'll only give MSRP for it). Is this case for others, or have you been able to get below MSRP for an ordered vehicle?

After that, I was offered (after much negotiating) a 71k MSRP 6MT M3 with $1200 off MSRP. With 3000k down for drive-off (i.e. $0 down, only paying for taxes and licensing), he offered a $1250 monthly lease payment (12k mile 36 month).

What do you guys think? I know this isn't a great deal, but is it reasonable? (Note that I'm in the Southern California market).

I really just want to take the Black on black 6MT and drive away (although it's not my first choice by far, it's an M3, so you can't really complain), but I want to make sure I get a reasonable deal as well. Thanks for the help guys

No. Dealers in Northern California are offering 2008 M3 sedans at $1000 over invoice such as Sonnen BMW in Sacramento ($4000-$5000+ off MSRP). Coupes are a little more expensive. The fact is that these cars are sitting on lots in large quantities. My local dealer in Pleasanton hasn't even been able to move its launch cars. There are February production cars sitting unwanted in the showroom. The economy is hammering dealers and they are getting desperate for sales, so you can certainly get better deal than $1200 off on a car on the lot if you are willing to look.

Only 6MTs are sitting on lots.

If your dealer is telling you December delivery that means a November allocation. I'm pretty sure they are just trying to push whatever they have on the lot. I'd try other dealerships. If it's pretty much the same story maybe you should look into ordering from a dealer in the bay area or somewhere in between. They may not have DCTs sitting on the lot but they might also be more willing to sell an ordered car for at least MSRP. It'll be a little inconvenient having to drive up to get the car but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

Perhaps for now... it's not the car, it's the economy.

Did you see my post? I have a ton of M3's for sale. There are dealers in SoCal that will work with you. Sounds like you've got a bad one.

Let me know if you'd like me to help you out. I don't understand all you SoCal people that don't check with a forum sponsor before you shop

gobruins,

I'm guessing you are talking about Center BMW in Sherman Oaks, yes?

no, Crevier BMW. I can now assure you it was the CA and not the dealership.

I heard MDCT is gay. Did you hear about that? I also heard it is slower and less reliable.

I have a friend at dealer which I don't want to name right now, but he says he can do 500 over invoice. I want to find out what it is for sure though. I know the figures he showed me and I want to make sure he hasn't turned into a "salesman". Is there a way I can check up on this.
