Magnaflow Exhaust E90 M3

Hello,

I'm looking at getting a Magnaflow Exhaust, wondering if anyone has some feedback? Good/Bad, too loud, build quality etc.

Thanks

For the money I would go elsewhere...there is a lot of boom and drone with this exhaust. Not to mention it isn't an inexpensive exhaust. For the same money you can get a Borla ATAK that sounds much better and doesn't have any drone and really brings out the exotic nature of this engine.

Buy a MPE and live happily ever after. Correct is better than cheap and wrong.

Review

So just had the magnaflow exhaust installed on my car for about a week now. No modifications were required or done to the bumper and it actually sits pretty flush.
It's a bit too loud for my tastes. I dd the car and I will be putting up the stock exhaust back on.

The exhaust does sound good with open throttle. 3-8k and it sounds beastly.
1-2.5k there's a bit of a drone that I disliked.

Anyone who's interested in the exhaust I'll also be selling it very cheap. I'll also post pictures if anyone is interested.

I have a magnaflow on my e92 m3 and personally for the price (I got it used for $400) it sounds great. I daily drove it for a year and it has very little drone. It looks good, it sounds good.

And overall, I recommend it.

I have the Dinan exhaust on mine and love it. Loud enough when you want the sound and no drone while cruising.

Love my magnaflow exhaust. no drone on low rpm, but that may have to do with other aspects of my exhaust as its custom. But I like it a little loud. You def get the more exotic sound than with other systems. This is a pure taste thing. Figure out what you want first then listen to a few and make your choice.

Buy my Hartge. Made by Supersprint. Excellent quality and no drone. Also very rare!

Not that I am an expert on exhausts, but some of the things I have read on the Magnaflow systems highlighted the thinner steel used in the system. Ultimately, I think the Borla system is comparatively priced and made from thicker material.

I have the OEM modified on mine. Can't beat it for the money. Sounds great.

I haven't tried one but the price is nice. The only way to know if you'll like it is to hook up with someone that has one or just take a leap of faith. Sound is so subjective, you've gotta take opinions with a grain of salt.

Nope .. ...wrong...just the opposite.

It's a quality muffler. Polish stainless steel and it's well built. IMO, It's heavy and could lose some weight.

I like mine enough. I got the set for $300 ....may change it out later.
It is loud and drones a bit at 2k ....but sounds like a beast at 4k-8k.

I have to agree!!! If you don't like it loud....i would not recommend it.

Are you sure on that??

I can honestly say that the build quality on the Magnaflow is better.
If you look and search...there has been many cracked MPE's.

If you like magnaflows sound, get a megan exhaust. Its 600 bucks and it doesnt drone like the magnaflow does. I know, my good buddy dean has the magnaflow on his and its nice, but his drones a lot more than my megan does hands down.

Thanks for chiming in Flea7. So let me rephrase what I was saying to ensure better accuracy.

Magnaflow exhausts are made from T409 stainless steel. This is the most common type of stainless steel used in automotive exhausts. However it isn't the strongest.

Borla exhaust use T304 stainless steel. T304 is the most commonly used type of stainless steel...period. It is extremely tough and resistant to corrosion, and is considered some of the highest level stainless steel used in the automotive industry.

Both are good systems I am sure. But Borla uses a superior stainless steel.

Flea7, if you have some resources that speak to the contrary please direct me to some educational reading...

Yeah...my understanding is that most "muffler"are made from T409 and headers and fasteners are made from T304. I'm not a expert either.

Either case the magnaflow it's a quality muffler. lifetime warranty. It's a great value. Thanks for the feedback.
