Daily Telegraph review - UK

The Daily Telegraph is the UK's biggest selling quality paper. The reviewer is likely to be approaching the car from a more 'middle of the road' point of view (ie he won't be looking to drift around the streets of london) howver i thought i would share his verdict...

I'll try and post up other reviews as most of our motor mags come out next week - hopefully they will be of interest to people outside of the uk.

regards mark

"We Like": Glorious unapologetic power and performance from BMW's racing division"

"We Don't Like"

"Uncouth engine note, scary handling when pressing on (or not), lack of steering feedback, image as a drug dealers' car, 11mpg means a life spent with oil company free gifts.

As far a gas mileage goes, what do people expect from a 400 plus horse power car?

"uncouth engine note" love it.

"image as drug dealers car" excellent, looking to make a few extra G's on the side to pay for this car, they should come running.

When I'm out hunting for meth or crack I'm usually looking for 24"s on Escalades or Navs, or any sort of large Mercedes, especially AMGs, which scream urban pimp and conspicuous consumption much more than anything from Munich. I always thought BMWs were more of a white collar corporate criminal sort of car, geez, I guess they'll sell a BMW any sort of perp now?

I would think this car would be the least "drug dealers" car. Its also been discussed before that the car will not get 11mpg unless you are driving it around town like you drive it on the track.

i'm sure 20 mpg will be seen by most people. Still in two minds about the styling though... hard to call, until you actually se the car i guess

You don't have to go far in London to find an E46 M3 with:

a) blacked out windows
b) 200 dB sub-woofer system
c) maybe even some of those wheel-hubs that spin round when stationary

They are usually driving at < 5mph with music blaring out of the open windows.

It's a fairly well-deserved reputation.

Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on your point of view) the same can also be said for Range Rovers, all manner of Mercedes and even the odd Continental GT.

I'm guessing this problem is beyond the capacity of this forum to solve
