M division selling out??
Is the M division slowly falling apart? With the M division announcing that
the next gen m3 will be twin turbo already turns down everything for which M stands for. Also with the whole x6 m and x5 m being turbo'd I feel like we have reached the point where exclusivity of the "M" brand is come down. Another example I can think of that I read on the forum is in order to get MDM, you have the opt out for all those technological gadgets and such. This just be my last M unless the M division does right and stops selling out. Well Im sure this is on the board but I had to let it out and there's no better less place than m3post. So i wanted to see if you guys are going to buy the next gen M3 or going to start looking at other Car companies

I have to admit I'm not very brand loyal so I don't know how to answer the poll. When I'm ready for a new car I will look at all the offerings out there that meet my needs/wants and make my decision then. I surely wouldn't rule out an M3 just because BMW chose to go FI.

I agree with most of what you are saying. I am not happy they are using the M on every model they have just to be able to mark the price up another 20K. It is sad that they are steering away from NA on M cars as well.
Will it lead me to no longer love the M? No Will my next car be a M? No, but not because of their recent choices. I will most likely go with an exotic for the my next ride.

BMW have gone nuts, despite even showing communities in their latest advert, they have shutdown one of the best and longest running M3 communities...

People argued that even putting the V8 in our cars was ruining the M3 heritage.
Im sure the next gen will have a huge following as well.

Agree with most of what you said. M is a sell out after I saw and experienced the X6 M over the weekend. Other than it looks nice, it is one hell of a horrible POS tank. 6800 rpm redline on an M car is a joke. They gave up on the defining characteristic of an M car - high-revving engine. That is what made M. It is like Porsche not making rear-engine 911s anymore.
However, M3 is still the lightest car of the bunch. Even if it is heavier by 130 lbs than the last M3. On scales, it tips in at 3580 pounds (3600 lbs for sedan). That is featherlight compared to the heavy tanks like 3900 lbs IS-F, 3900 lbs RS4, 4100 lbs CTS-V and 4000 lbs C63 AMG. They need to keep the same 4.0 Liter V8 with 25 - 30 HP more and make the car 300 lbs lighter. 3200 lbs 440 HP 4.0 Liter V8 M3 is the ideal M3 right there. Quote:

Selling out? Have you ever driven a boosted car that puts out 500 rwhp? I will take the "sell out" boosted M3 any day of the week. We need more manufacturers to sell out.

The M division had definitely strayed from what I thought was the motor sport division. While I appreciate the economics of the X5M and X6M (See Cayenne), I am losing interest in the brand as it loses exclusivity and purity. If they actually decide to use to a rough and thrashy V6 instead of the naturally balanced I6 in the upcoming M3, it may be the straw that sends me to different pastures.
There was a thread a while back about the E92 M3 being a little underwhelming in terms of acceleration, and since I read it I can't help but think of the possibilities that could be had if our cars were designed 500 pounds lighter, but had retained our soulful, high revving, naturally aspirated lumps. |

These repeated posts are getting old real quick. If you don't like the direction they are taking with the next gen, don't buy one. Simple as that. We don't need to hear about your whinning that M division is selling out blah blah blah. When you shop for your next car, buy the car based on how it performs, not for the badge on the trunk.

Complainers, complainers, complainers! I wonder what Porsche purists said when the 911 showed up with turbo charger back in the 80's?!

Where else can you get a car that "rides like it is on rails" through the curves, sounds outstanding during hard acceleration with the top down (E93 owner), has a Launch Control feature that really gets the Adrenalin pumping, looks great and is a BMW

It's about evolution in a process. You have to adapt to change or your staunch ideology will be the reason of your downfall. BMW believes in that and so therefore they have to adapt to the rules of the playground. Just because future M models won't be normally aspirated it doesn't mean it won't be a capable driver's car. I can't wait to see what the guys at ///M division will bring to the table. They might even give AMG a run for their money. Straight line power and torque matched with a superb chassis and handling....ooooOoh!

The BMW M Division can do whatever it wants as long as it builds fun well balanced reliable cars that I can pounce on at the track and drive it home in comfort. I love turbocharged vehicles but I don't believe it belongs in the M. I will hold judgment till we can actually test the product.
I hated the X6 already when it came out but with the M Division adding their name to it, I'm even more disappointed. If the M SUVs are anything like the Cayenne GTS though then perhaps I'll breath a sigh of a relief. I was quite astonished at the ability of the GTS around a track... unnecessary but at least well executed by Porsche. Sometimes change is a good thing... sometimes.

Is the M Division selling out?
For anyone who understands and appreciates the hallowed history of the M Division, the answer lies in the swift upper cut to the jaw.

Werd. Have we forgotten about 911 GT3? Funny thing is people who traded their 480 HP 911 Turbo 997 in for a 440 HP 997.2 GT3 997 say they both don't even compare when it comes to responsiveness and sheer driving excitement. The GT3 is a most purest and most driver-oriented 911 in production today.

I voted that I'll 'Leave the M for another brand', but not because I'm upset with BMW or the M divsion for any reason at all.
I'll probably go elsewhere only since I usually like to try something different afterwards. Nothing against the direction M is heading towards. I think the way they're heading creates more excitement, and I may come back much later in the future... |

People hate change. Pure and simple. I'm sure the "Purists" complained about the horseless carriage too. I'll take my 414 horses and leave the horse shit to the purists.
