How is it not subjective? The poll is just a bunch of numbers that mean absolutely nothing. There are many important factors that are not taken into account. Career, salary, age, marital status, location, cost of living, debt, etc. If a 30 year old, single man that lives in Detroit has $300k saved and a 60 year old, married man that lives in LA has $300k saved, I'd say one is much better off than the other, even though the amount is the same.

He used the wrong word, but you'll still get the point if you skip out on the pedantism. The point is that as the poll is currently configured, the results aren't very meaningful because a really good portfolio for a 25 year old would be pitiful for a 50 year old.

I have no retirement account.

There is a total of three retirement accounts that are through my wifes job/income. She is a school teacher and we are essentially using her job for retirement and insurance.

If she chooses to dump my ass I am screwed

X2. Data is close to meaningless. Another issue is if the total is you and your spouse then you obviously will need more money to retire and a single person will need less.

I think you would legally be entitled to a share of it. No different than the CEO that works his whole career and has massive retirement while his wife never has a normal paying job.

I'd guess that on this type of forum, people have saved less than they probably should have at their age due to spending too much money on cars.

A disproportionate amount of young (<30) new BMW owners have family financial support so I'd imagine that issue is offset quite a bit.
