Still out there trying to prove that the M3 is a fast car even in N/A 6MT form. After a 6 month or so hiatus, I finally got back to Laguna Seca and beat my previous record time at this track. Will probably be able to break into the 1:30's once I run more camber (only -2.8 in the front at the moment), and I definitely have a few seconds left to shave with a bit more confidence in some of the corners.

One strange thing I noticed is my top speed dropped from around 122-124mph through turn 1 back in April to 116-118 mph this time. Slower top speed, but faster lap time. Obviously going faster through the corners, but I wonder if my car is not running in top shape.

E92 M3 6 Speed Manual
Track/course: Laguna Seca
Best Lap Time: 1:40.98
Brakes: Brembo 380 / Endless Pads
Tires: Hankook TD's 265/35/18 295/30/18
Suspension: Ohlin RT, Vorschlag Camber Plates, RD Sport Sways
Other mods: Akra Evo, ESS Tune, M3 GTS Aero, Half Cage, Recaro Profi's

The 1:40 happened on lap 4.

i noticed that in my e90. i went from 140 front straight speed which felt sketchy down to a 134ish and my lap times still kept improving. i did this on purpose though as i used maitenance throttle sooner rather than flat out.

I see you're on Hankook TD now. That grip is pretty awesome isn't it? Was this your first track day on TD? I'll be curious to hear your results, but several of us on TD's all seem to experience the same thing: TD's seem to be fastest on their first laps, and while they remain grippy over several track days, it really is the first few laps on them that is magical......and then you spend the rest of the tire's life chasing what you accomplished on those first laps. For me, fresh TD's and the first session in the morning when the weather's cool and the engine is cool = the ultimate track experience.

Yup first time on TD's. I always get slower throughout the day no matter what tires I'm running. I think its the heat + fatigue. But yea for me the first 2 sessions are always my best. The TD's felt really grippy all day though. I've only run PS Cups and R888's before these so I don't have a lot of R Comp experience, but the TD's are worlds better. I usually have a few oversteer moments, but practically none all day. There's definitely more grip in the tires than I have the balls for.

Nice run man. I ran a 1:48 flat on my 3rd session and was gunning for a 1:45 in my last session but I got stuck behind a ferrari for 4 laps who's ego wouldn't allow a point-by then after I passed him I hit traffic.

Overall my goal was sub 1:50 for the first time on the track which I accomplished (I just couldn't go all out like I did at Thunderhill though because of the walls..).

Nice. I think sub 1:50 is good for anyone's first time at Laguna. I'm slow at Thunderhill and Sonoma since I don't get to go to those track often enough.

There was a good bit of traffic in the middle intermediate group on Sunday. I ended up running the fastest laps in the group during my 3rd and 4th sessions. My fastest lap on the first session was 2:04 (I left off the gas going through turn 1 not knowing what was beyond it)....

It was similar at Thunderhill, my first session fast lap was 2:21. By the second session of the 2nd day I was running 2:08-2:11 almost every lap that I wasn't held up. Unlike you, my fastest laps come in the first session after lunch.

You ever gonna come down to Buttonwillow and/or Chuckwalla one of these days?

hehe prepare for a rude surprise when you get to Buttonwillow. The pavement doesn't even hold a candle to the pavement at Laguna Seca or even Sonoma Raceway. I like to call the pavement there a "patchwork quilt" because that's what it's looks like from all the interim repairs. Don't get me wrong; I love the place---in fact, I consider it my "home" track. But it's nothing short of a rude surprise to guys who are used to nicely paved tracks. The course itself is quite fun.

If you go to Buttonwillow, go in the late fall/winter. We'll just be starting to see a break in the nasty temperatures in the next few weeks.

+1 If you want the nicely paved track like you have at Laguna Seca then Chuckwalla is the place to go (I haven't go yet but will hit up the San Diego PCA event on Oct 19th/20th at $270 for 2-days it's a good deal for a DE/TT event). You stay in Palm Springs or Indio (leave the wife at a nice hotel/day spa while you hit the track) since the track is in the middle of nowhere. Should be in the low 80s out there by then. Both Buttonwillow and Chuckwalla are technical tracks with few walls and a lot of runoff into dirt.

There are a handful of NorCal people who we see at Buttonwillow very regularly. Heck, they come down more often than many SoCal people.

Yea. My 2 kids are older, and the wife stays plenty busy over the weekends with them & their activities. Heck, sometimes she probably doesn't even know that I'm at a track, lulz.
