That part is supposed to fail just the way it did if put into excessive compression (like hitting a curb).

As stated in the other thread, improper mounting during a dyno run could have caused that as well. It is physically impossible for that to happen through normal driving.

Anymore info on how this happened? Was there a big bump or pothole you hit?

Not the same geometry, but on the E46 I saw this happen to a couple guys at the track after particular bad slides in the "outfield". That part is design buckle to absorb the most likely abnormal force on the suspension and subframe. Be glad it's there.

edit: Man after reading that thread there is clearly something shady going on.....

I noticed the pictures are dated 2003 and that there's a lot of dirt and rust for a 500-mile old 2009 E90. What's up with that? My '08 E92 has 6900 miles, including six track days, and the undercarriage still looks like it rolled out of the factory! (Edited to correct mileage: wrote 7800 miles when it's really 6900)

I really hate reading this kind of stuff on car forums. Someone reports a problem, and doesn't tell the entire story of their role in creating the problem.

I hope that is not the case here, but my BS detector definitely went off.
