H&R Coilover Set up Question
Folks, just saw this special from Turner Motorsport and want to know your opinions about this setup, seems like a good price... My E92 is not a daily driver but I will like to have a decent not-so-harsh ride, warranty will be out next month so let the Mods begin...

H&R had some quality control issues with the E46 M3 coilovers and many owners of the E92 M3 don't like them because of this. But honestly I have had them on my E86 M and now my E92 M3 and they work just fine and are made well. So don't listen to the guys that think they are junk. To be honest my KW V3 were just as good but with more options. KW and H&R for me and my history of NSX, S2000, Z4MC, etc cars are an average suspension. I had the Top Secret, Aragosta, Ohlins, etc and those were much better but more on the track side of things and prices were double and triple of the KW and H&R setups. Quality was superior to KW and H&R. Don't get me wrong though, KW and H&R are the best bang for the buck, so to speak.

Thanks for your input, I've always had great experience with H&R in other cars and didn't think this would be any different... Not a fan of naysayers therefore I went ahead and bought the kit, glad you came on line for reassurance! Got 'em on Friday and can't wait to get them install, got lucky too and payed the sale price, another reason to be happy about it. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!!

How are your H&R coilovers holding up? I am thinking about getting this setup. I mainly street drive my M3, and am wondering how these coilovers will hold up over time driving on rough city roads.

Is this the lowest the coil-overs can go?

Mine have a 2 inch rear drop and a 1.75 front drop.
They can go lower.

^^^^that looks fantastic. How do decide on the perfect height besides trial and error?

Very good customer service. I wanted the rear tire tucking just a 1/4 inch and the front I wanted a one finger gap because I was going with a lip. That way it would look normal.

Bilstein makes the shocks for H&R. H&R makes the exterior strut casting, suspension mount points and everything else.
I had a terrible experience with H&R coilovers which I mentioned in another thread. The suspension shaft had play in it after using it for 3 months which made all sorts of clunking noises. You could grab the shock body by hand and it would wiggle - that was how bad it was. H&R replaced it under warranty after much complaining and escalation. The 2nd shock developed the exact same problem within a few months. I can understand suspension breaking over time but failure to even last 3 months!? I've had Megan Racing (crap) coilovers that last longer than that. |
