m3 vs skyline

Hi
I have an e92 stock M3 6 speed and a "friend" of mine just got a 1996 skyline and is eager to go to the track and play around, essentially race.
I am just curious, how would my car hold up against a 96 skyline, which he says is well-modified (i know this is vague, but i have no idea what this includes, and i am sure he is sugarcoating, but wtv.) i know this is hypothetical, cause you have no real info on the skyline, but in your opinions, how would a stock manual e92 m3 holdup against a modified 96 skyline...straightaways and track.

i have no problems losing if that would be the case, i m not the racing type, never have raced-before, nor do i plan on it...plus bmw said i cant, they can tell via the key fob...i dunno, how they would define racing.
just curious cause he said his car would obliterate mine.

Depending on the mods his car CAN beat your M3. Obliterate... well that's to be determined because the driver makes a huge differenceand it really depends on the mods.

Don't forget those old skylines can be easily modified to almost 500 hp and torque and thats not including mods for track such as suspension, brakes, tires.

Just look at the thread in this forum of the B5 S4 with a stage 3 kit that burnt the stock M3. The old Skyline can get the same mods and handles better (in my opinion) than the B5 S4.

Just youtube the Skyline you will get a ton of videos ranging all the way to 1200+ hp on the old skylines.

Heres a nice link to read up on his model skyline .

thnaks a lot
yup, i did some research, and all the skylines i really saw were pushing over 800 bhp, and stuff.
i know its a highly tunable car; its just i have really never seen official 0-60times for these cars.
also , i m curious, what does it cost, to succesfully generate massive hp out of a stock skyline...

FWIW, a stock R33 skyline GTR (its a GTR right?) will lap the nurburgring about 5 seconds faster than a E92 (This was the only real comaprison I could easily find). So, I would say a modified R33 GTR would destroy an M3. And it doesn't really cost that much to get stupid HP from them. 500 awhp can be done for less than 5k, easily...they are phenominal machines

yea, its hard to tell man. it would depend a lot on how much modification the car has gone through and the skill level of both drivers. being an m3 and r34 owner, I would have to say that handling wise, the m3 would out handle the m3 anytime any where. The GTR are just too bulky of a car. Even though my R34 is pushing 600 to the wheels, its feels light and quick on straights and out of the corners, it a heavy piece of metal going into corners. And there are a lot of things that come into play too. The GTR's are very smart cars with all their electronics. but to some drivers, they are obstacles and to some they are aids. So there are way too many variables here. And the r33 is a little bit lighter than the 34 that i have so it just makes the chances that it would be faster than the m3 even more. If you need more info on GTR's I can share all the knowledge i can with you. haha. i'm more of a GTR fanatic than an m3 fanatic. But i still LOVE my M3. but whether i'd pick it over my r34 is another thing. haha!

Really depends on the type of Skyline - there are many variants...the only ones of concern would be GT-R (2.6L TT) or GTS-T (2.5L Turbo).

I wouldn't be too concerned against a Skyline - they are quite heavy (probably similar weight to E9x M3) and if heavily modified, they are normally overpowered and difficult to handle.

thanks again, i am really quite sure it is just a regular skyline, modified but not a gtr or gts-t...
i take it though a normal skyline, modified, would still take an m3 on a straight away, the m3 really shines on tracks i guess.
i know this is really hypothetical, since we have no idea what the specs of the skyline in question are, so thanks for the input.

Niqui,

Why dont you ask your buddy what power it has . Most people know what their car is stock and approximately how much its at with the mods put on it.

Im even more curious since we're both from montreal. I always getthe itch to race a skyline but they definately do VARY in power depending on what the owner did. It reminds me somewhat of the B5 S4's. BIG difference once you pass stage 2.

Hi, to be honest with you, the original reason why i didnt get into it with him, is because, I really cant stand him. But when he is in town, we always see each other as we share many mutual friends, are freidns ourselves. He comes into mtl every now and then, he is a nice guy, harmless, but loud, cocky and obnoxious.
we are still friends, and i just saw him, but i can only really stand him in doses, but when he gets back into town, i will ask for you and i, i really doubt that he will give me the honest figure, but wtv, take it at face value.
he just left till summer, but will be back then.

dont get me wrong, hes a nice guy, funny, but not my type of person.\

sorry to say but if this guy wants to race your stock m3 and has a modded skyline im sure he knows what he's doing and knows what the m3 is capable of. My guess is that he will beat u pretty bad. When i had my supra i ran 13.5 @ 108 stock then did basic boltons and went 12.1 @ 117! What I"m getting at is that it doesn't take much to make these JDM muscle cars fast. The M is so much more sexy though IMO. Have fun and post a vid!

OHH one of those types... just leave him alone and don't pay him any mind.. hes just trying to prove how fast his 96 skyline is ... Your car is to nice don't even bother trying to show him up. Ive had those same types of incidents.

im glad someone knows what i am talking about, since he got his car he wants to race everyone, including rx-8's, etc, so i dont know if he really knows cars...he bought the car already modded, so i have no doubt that he will smoke me now that you guys explained it to me.
with slight mods, from, my research, those cars post massive numbers...i would still take my car anyday though.
thanks

I'd still race him just for the fun of it. Roll ons since I hate droping the clutch on my M!

Remember there are a lot of stages he can have and most that came from Japan were not crazily modified. Hes probably got less hp than you and more torque. If he's B5 S4 stage 2 type power then you will be able to take him.

By Skyline, I assume you mean the GTR. Cause the normal Skyline is not that fast.

Stock vs stock, I don't see how the 96 GTR would have any advantage. Its a 13 yr old car. But modified as you say, will determine by how modded it is. And the driver will come into play. Some drivers that aren't pros will actually suffer on the track if they have too much power as they can't control it.

Tell us the results.
