Broken caliper, decapitated engine, major damage to BOTH front AND back? must have been one scary crash.

I wonder if the girl sitting on the road (7th photo) was the driver.

Obviously the car somehow lost control, went off road, crashed into the guardrail, got bounced back and hit the center divider. The car probably hit the guardrail rear first, and lost the engine once it span back on the road. The cabin looks to be intact, and there seem to be 3 passengers standing next to the car.

I wouldn't call those tiny chips, scratches and dings totalled if you asked me.

No surprise that the passenger cabin is intact. Incredible engineering.

Usually when accidents happen on the autobahn, they become very serious because of the speed, but they happen fewer than here in the US. Again, just goes to show great German engineering.

i don't think its as much of german engineering as it is driving behavior. I've seen a video of an E90 owner driving on the autobahn after ED pickup, and he was going 145mph i believe. he commented on how the other drivers, in the left lane, would just move out of his way, no problems. Here in the U.S., you can be gunning it in the left lane and you still come across countless people who won't budge.

Also, I would think those driving 100 mph+ would be more vigilant and cautious that those driving slower trying to do their makup and talk on the cellphone at the same time.
