Nice. I wish i could somehow convince myself to get an M3 as a daily. I gave up the e46M because I couldn't justify driving it everyday

Posts like yours make me regret doing so.

You gave up a car that can be had for about $20k because you could not justify it for day to day use? What are you driving now, and just how much are you saving by enduring what is surely a comparably boring daily commute?

This is why my e90 has so many miles. The extra depreciation is still way less expensive than getting any other car than a $1000 beater.

Since getting my e46, which by the way was the ultimate M3 (except for the DSC), I've put 190k miles on my 3 M3s.

35k on my 03/08 M3 - no problems to report, other than having to deal with those @#$#@ non-LCI tail lights

You think the e46 is a better commuter/highway driver than an e90?

44k-drivers door release mechanism began malfunctioning. Typically would take 3 pulls to open the door from inside. One to pop the lock, one to release the door and one to FULLY release the door. Warranty fixed- $0

46k-fuel pump module went bad when passing someone on the highway. They diagnosed and replaced entire fuel pump assembly. Warranty fixed- $0

Noticed at 58k when installing AA exhaust- passenger axle seal was leaking at diff. Not a bad leak, but a leak never the less. CPO fixed- $50deductible

62k-Bank 1 throttle actuator went south. Good thing for CPO warranty...they fixed it so fast though I didn't have time to speak with the service manager (friend of mine) about doing both while they had access. CPO fix-$50deductible

Despite these issues- thankfully all fixed under a warranty of some sort- I still LOVE the car and can't wait to continue enjoying it. Only 2 track days thus far, but it has seen countless redline runs and triple digits fairly regularly. Just an absolute joy to own and drive. I say drive bc it was never in the shop more than 3 days at a time luckily haha.
dude how many issues did you have holy shit. As long as the car is working fine thou.

Specifically to highway (since he asked)-- the e46 feels more stable at 100+ mph cruising as well.

I have 2 IS250's now.

I just felt like i was gambling big time with the e46 SMG tranny by doing so much daily driving. It was reliable for the two years I had it, and i absolutely had no regrets.. But i didn't want to push my luck.

It's actually not a terrible process to turn the SMG into a 6mt. Basically add return springs and shift lever, remove SMG hydraulics, change to vehicle order to not include SMG (code it off with NCS expert). They're both the same transmission underneath .

Least you could do if you're going to hang out here is put up a pic of that Imola beauty with the RG63s.

Oh! sorry for the thread jack.

I don't know....the e90 is way more comfy. And surprised to say it, but little things like better nav and Idrive make a difference too

Not if you have one of the cars in the subject of this thread. Calculation time at cold start (which is when nav most of the time). Video my friend made, who owns both:

I think I may have thread jacked enough :P

Thread is of interest to me because... Have 4 door needs in my future. Need a car to supplement the e46 coupe. And, since I have no plan to sell any cars... Longevity of potential cars is important to me. Specifically a no sunroof, no idrive, 6mt sedan.

That's the old idrive in the video. The e9x is a better overall system. Almost never used nav in the e46 whereas I find it quite useful now.

I couldn't even fathom doing something like this. I don't keep cars very long so this was out of the question for me.

If you're trying to make a point....just on this page, there's an '09, '10, 11 and a couple e46s so doesn't really matter.

The current Nav is superior to the one from the e46, but the current lady is no where near as polite as the nice lady in my old e46. She said please.

101,000 KM and my elec fan stopped working.
It works, in a friend's M3 so Iknow the fan is OK. I've been testing all the wiring and figured out roughly whats going on. (i'm not getting 12v, and theres no continuity between the fuse and the fan's harness plug.

I'll figure it out. If All i get is issues like this every 100k km, I'll be happy!

Just picked up a 2008 E92 M3 that has 45k, First day I had it I did an ACM exhaust mod and put wheels on the car. Drove the car down the street and it through the car into the Reducded power Malfunction.... Turned car off and back on and car was fine. 2 hours later same warning came on and took several tries to get the warning to go off, drove the car to work and same warning again and now the car is at BMW. and they are trying to make me pay diagnostic fee's on a car that was bought less than 24 hours ago... Kinda freaked out what it could be. What is weird though is the car throws the code more so driving normally rather than getting on the car.... Bought the car just to enjoy it and have something reliable I can beat on and the first day I have all these problems... What doesn't make any sense at all is that they diagnosed the whole car the day we picked it up because the service manager said something didn't feel right and everything came back fine.. So I have no idea what is going to happen and how the car could already be doing this.... They said they reflashed the whole car too when they diagnosed it.
