Question Too long untill production starts. Need advise.

I have ordered E92 M3 back on September 10. After putting some pressure on my SA to find out why there is no commitment for production got a response that it is scheduled for week 45. Makes it early November completion and I will not see the car until December. That is way too long without a car. My E90 M3 2011 was totaled in a flood early September.

Is this my dealer issue. Can some other dealer have my car delivered sooner? Please advise.
Thanks

It takes a while to get a 2012 M3 right now. I put my order in in Aug - a month before production of the 2012 model year started in Sept. My car finished production a little over a week ago and is now at the port waiting to get on a ship. Next ship is in 1 week if it gets on that. Then 3 weeks at sea... and maybe another week or so between the VPC and dealer. I'd estimate delivery as first half of November.

From this, a Sept order being delivered in Nov/Dec doesn't sound unreasonable given the current rate of production.

Yea it takes a long time.. My car was one of the first one in production and I ordered the last week of July, and it is still at the VPC (it's been there since 9/22), but should be released for shipping to the dealer today or tomorrow.

I don't think it's your dealer. Everything I've heard indicates production slots for Sept/Oct/Nov are very hard to come by. Unless you want to get one off the lot, I'd say you're doing OK for a custom-ordered car timeline.

You could always pay out of pocket for a crap rental at <$600 month. Won't be great to drive, but it's an inexpensive way to have transportation for a couple of months.

Ha ha, that reminds me. I'll have to remember to take a pic of the car that I'm renting and post it in the Correlation thread later tonight. Picked it up on Friday after I sold my E93 on Thursday.

Car should be here in 5-6 weeks, but I booked the rental for 8 weeks just to be safe (it's pro-rated if I return it early).

To the op: it's not that bad. I'm booked at $499 / month for the car + $9/day for insurance ($769 / month total).

It looks like there is a very similar car to the one i ordered will be at the port on the 12th. My dealer is trying to trade for it. If it works i should have my car in mid October. Thanks for all your support!

Mid-October sounds about right. For a few months, we assumed that no new '12 models could get delivered before 10/15 due to emissions certifications. Although many people appeared to be on track to get their cars this week, it does appear now that the VDC is holding cars, probably for the Moroney sticker.

Now think of those of us who did ED, it literally took me 5 months from the time I placed the order back in April to finally get the car here in the States two weeks ago (of course I saw it in Munich back in July, but it still took two months after that to finally get it here)

I also ordered (put deposit down) on a MY2012 back in April, and won't take PCD redelivery until December. Talk about anticipation!!

If you haven't already shoot Ryan an email, I know its tight right now but who knows maybe he can get it to you a little sooner. I know that allocations are crazy right now and they are filling up fast. Ryan has been placing almost 10 orders a week lately so slots are getting more and more hard to come by. But do you blame everyone? this car is awesome and its not going to be around to much longer. So its either get one from a lot and hope its close to what you want and live with it or wait a little time and get what you want and be very pleased with your purchase.
