As a current G37s owner here a stock G is quick but not M3 quick, not even close. As others have said closer to stock 335, WRX, etc. Looking forward to the M

Mother has a loaded g37. Thing is a total shit box. everything is crap platic, nav is a joke, terrible steering and the transmission is ALLWAYS in the wrong gear. Its 330hp and makes decent low end torque but even speed wise its not even in the same league as an m3. Its deffinately a better motor than the 135/335 from a stock to stock standpoint.
The IPL G37 is an insult. Japanese car manufactures can make race cars or appliances, not a sports luxury car

I like the look of the G37 coupe but not as much as I do the M3 but I guess it's subjective. I never thought of the G37 to be on par with the E92 M3 in performance unless it's FI. I pegged it more for the 335i coupe, Audi S5 or even the E46 M3.

A Nismo 370Z is probably a closer rival the the M3 in terms of what both cars were designed do to from the ground up. |

Not true... they are fairly close. The 335 is better but if someone thinks it "blows a G37 out of the water" they have never really driven a G37. I have owned G37S coupes and have extensive seat time in a 335i and they are closer than many 335 owners are willing to admit.

I've wasted my money on two G37's and I have no problem admitting that there's no competition between a G37 and a 335i. Once I bought the 335i, I hardly ever touched the G37 coupe I've never had my or any of my friend's G37's do a run faster than my or any of my friend's 335i's It may be close in a straight line, but theres still no competition between the two. 335i will take it every time |

Closer than you think.......
Quote:
1. You have a convertible, which at 4145 lbs is about 500lbs heavier than the G37 coupe. 2. While the hp rating of the M3 motor is significantly higher, some of this is due to the M3's higher redline. If you look at the WHEEL TORQUE of the two cars, the M3 is only slightly superior. Most dyno results put the M3 motor only about 15-20lb-ft more. 3. So.....combine your significantly higher weight with only marginally better torque and you'll see that the G37 actually has a slightly better torque to weight ratio. That said, I really think talking about how the M3 compares to other cars in terms of just straight line speed is not a worthwhile discussion. Even a Subaru with just an ECU mod could probably pull on an M3. The M3's charm lies in its overall supreme balance, dynamics, and subjective feel that no competitor can seemingly duplicate.

Why is it that they challenge us all the time. Just this past weekend I had about 5 run ins with G37s coupes. In all but one, I was sitting in the slow lane minding my own business. The final one I just had to blast away because it was late at night with no one else to endanger.

I have absolutely no knowledge what-so-ever about the G37, so I felt compelled to post here.
I currently own a 2011 M3 and have never driven or sat in a G37, and in my totally unbiased opinion, without a doubt the M3 is a much better car in every way. My opinions are fact.

I got a G37 sedan as a loaner when my 335i was at the dealership. It was such a typical Japanese cheapo, faux-luxury interior (doesn't hold a grain to lexus and I don't like lexus) and the engine was shize. It was loopy, clunky, and slow revving...it made me not want to drive fast for goodness sakes! The FI N54 felt like it had individual throttle bodies compared to that horrible sounding NA VQ.
I honestly had higher regard for that car before my loaner experience. Looking back, I can't believe how much I liked infiniti G35s as a high-school student. Now I feel almost insulted when car mags compare the 3 series to the G. To be fair, the G is much cheaper and it is well-kitted with the tech package. Still, I would gladly pay a premium for a ZSP 328i over a G37s. Last edited by GnokGnik; 06-04-2011 at 12:49 AM.. |

Yes - e93 is 10lbs per horsepower whereas stock g37 is 11.2 lbs per horsepower - 10% better in favor of e93 - plus I've personally never lost to g35 or g37.
