NOOB tire questions

Noob owner here.

110k miles and now tires are shot. Now one has given up the ghost (split at the ply). Need to replace all 4. But I can't seem to figure out what I need.

Currently mounted are
f: 245/40 R18 97W
r: 275/40Zr18 103W

Front tires seem available. Rear tires seem hard to get, and all the online tools suggest 265 rears. I assume those won't fit my rims? 1cm narrower seems significant, but perhaps I am wrong.

Is there a preferred brand?

How wide is your rear wheels? 265/40/18 could easily accommodate 11" wide.
I am in the process of switching from PSS to PS4S.

I just realized I measured 11" from outside of rim, not bead seat. so, I have no clue.

The width of your rims is measured from bead seat to bead seat. So your rims are most likely 10.50" which is perfect fine with 275/40 or 265/40.

Without knowing your rim specs, intended use, driving style and ride height we're flying about as blind as you are.

Urban and highway, no track, no pulls. Assume ride height is stock. Its a babied e93, so make of that what you will. Been looking for something less likely to kill me in the snow, as it is a year round DD (not that I drive a lot these days).

This isn't that hard to figure out!
If I understand correctly, the OP is looking to replace the tires so going from 275/40/18 to 265/40/18 will be 4mm smaller in diameter and 10mm narrow. Assuming the rear wheels are 10.5" wide!

I could post pics of the tired tires if it would amuse you.

Thanks. Depending on your temperature range I'd recommend continental extreme contact dws 06plus. Most of us running staggered with 9.5 front and 10.5 rear with 22-25 offset tend to run 265/35 front and 285/35 rear. Running a little lower profile tire will minimize the rubbing up front.

Adding: those of us running 18" rims.

I'd replace them with 275s, but they don't seem for sale and would all take weeks to get in. Car is a brick right now with one flat front tire. I could replace only the fronts and wait on the rears. I could just put on 265 in the rear (I think I now understand).

In an ideal world I would go on the "for sale" section of this website and buy someone's old wheel/tire combo, but that section is nearly useless without location unless you want weed through a hundred posts or pay for shipping across the country.

I must be stock height as I have no rubbing up front.

You definitely do not want to mix old/new, different brands tires. I would just get the 265/40 if they are available or wait until the 275/40 available.
The recommendation of Continental is very good all around tire

Hahaha I was going to recommend that thread but I was worried it would send him down a deep rabbit hole and give him paralysis by analysis. Like recent rod bearing/bolt deep dives.
