I couldn't imagine owning a base F430 without a 6 speed. One might as well just nuder themselves getting the F1 box. Not to mention it's one of the last manual Ferrari's ever.

The 16M or Scuderia, those are big jump over the base car and carry a massive (F355, E90 M3 $ premium over one). I wouldn't mind the F1 trans in those, firstly because it's improved greatly and secondly because of how well the cars perform. The base F430 is a rather sloppy/slow handler. It's like in E46 M3 ZCP territory in terms of lap times, if you were allowed to change a few things inexpensive things on the E46 (alignment, tires, brake pads, engine management). Their fast in a straight line though, that's for sure.

I drove an F430 manual for a good 30-40 minutes hard in the mountain roads. Best car I've ever driven in my life. It literally hits all the right buttons for me. Going back to the M3 was a sad and depressing moment (I was supercharged at the time too). And the Gallardo is garbage compared to the 430. Drove that on the same day too. As much as I'd love to own a Ferrari, I'd never do it because it's a car begging to be on a race track and I don't think I could deal with all the maintenance required to keep an F car running well with a lot of track time.

Very nice, but you went from wanting a super high revving N/A V8, Mid-engine RWD to that?

Yeah at least I'm keeping the M3 so I will have a my fix of a high revving V8 whenever I want.

The 430 was a compromise anyway. I want the 458. I did have an opportunity to get one on Friday for $195k but passed as I didn't like the color combo. Maybe in a couple years pricing will be a bit more reasonable.

Good choice. At the track, it's always the P cars that are running. The F cars are for show and Sunday cruising and they break if you run them hard.

BTW, in case you were wondering, the fastest stock Turbo S is 10.69@129.8. My best is 10.75@129.1 at +1200 DA. Haven't had a chance to get a good run except ONE run because I can't get traction with the street tires LOL.

Thanks Alex...the next Airstrip event in November 23rd. The M3 hates the heat as I learned at the last event where it was 90 degrees. So if it's hot, I'll take the 911.

For sure! I think a Stage 2 S/C M3 will win but it will be fun to see!

It's just too bad there's not a ton of mods for this car like the 997.1's but it has a warranty until 2016 so I'm gonna beat the snot out of it

Wow. I probably won't drag race it but anything in the 10's is insane. While the salesman wanted me to try it...I didn't feel right about using launch control on a car I didn't own. But I did punch it from a dead stop and holy shit it was surreal. Like I was in a vaccum.

Nice Adam, it's cool that you have a solid second option for these events! lol I myself just bought a stock Evo X MR that I intend to use has a winter beater/track toy, the car still has 3 years of warranty left so I'm gonna "try" not to mod it and beat on it like there's no tomorrow!

Awesome. While it's no Ferrari, it'll outperform it (0-60 is an insane 2.8 on the S) and you'll have peace of mind knowing you can drive it daily and it has a warranty. It's also a Porsche so it's very reliable.

Great choice. I think the 911 is a much better option for someone who uses the car like you do. The Ferrari would have been awesome but the tune-ability and reliability challenges seem to result in most Ferrari's becoming show-pieces. The 911 Turbo can be driven hard.
