Damn..I called performance tread and they said it was not a warranty issue!

Although I cannot say that I was not running the tire over a divet in an effort to use all of the track. But I'm sure the splice helped things.

Water under the bridge...those tires are long gone.

I've moved on to the new Toyo Proxes RR. I'll let you know how they do.

they helped me but my guess is they are getting sick of the claims and trying to get out of it as much as possible.

Another fellow racer reached out to Discount Tire Direct to find out if they knew anything. They put him on hold to check with their tech dept, and when they came back on said they hadn't heard of anything related to the NT-01s failing.

Had the NT01's on the car for the first time today did about 5 sessions (~15min) and had them at 38 hot. No signs of Splice on cracks. Weather was 68-70. Ran them pretty hard and really liked the tire. the tire production was week 41 of 2012.

side note - i thought you can reverse these tires on the rim once they wear down?
i did, and while they seem a bit more greasy, at least im getting some life out of them.

any risk with this?

lots of people have reported running these in reverse. i havent dont it but would if thought i could get more wear out of them. as is think my camber is pretty well dialed in to not cause excessive wear in any one area and can manage them by rotation part way thru each day.

I just ran 2 days at Chuckwalla in 90+ degree heat with 2 tires that I flipped on the wheel......no issues at all. A small splice line appeared on one of those tires (before the event) but I made sure to run it the proper direction and it never opened up.

The other 2 were brand new and no splice issues there so far. I'll have to report back with the production date on these.

I just ran mine in reverse. Oddly, I was much faster driving backwards that session.

I got one new NT01 from the tread splice issue, and the other 3 have a day on them... should be fun breaking in the new one.

I got my 2 rear tires replaced and had a miserable track day of mismatched tires. Tread squirm in the rear made the car quite scary. I'll have to run the rears on the street to wear them down a bit. What a hassle this whole thing has turned out to be.

I don't think you want to run new tires at the rear, unless all 4 tires are new.

I have staggered sizes and the replaced tire is a rear. So no real choice - but I will be taking it easy the first day while I wear in the replaced tire for sure.

I usually put the newer tires on the front.

Yeah I know, I guess I was hoping that the squirm wouldn't have been that dramatic. I was also trying to gain longevity of the whole set since the rears last longer.
Pick your poison, squirmy fronts causing lazy turn in or squirmy rears causing exciting turn in.

New tires at the rear is scary also on the streets. Ask me how I know.

But, hopefully, your day at the track has scrubbed them sufficiently.

I just took my nt01 off after just one trackday and my rear left tire has a tread splice exactly as what is discussed on this thread. It is not as bad as some of the others but i'm sure it'll get worse.. I'll be calling performance tread on Monday..

Curse you nitto! I think I'm switching to BFG R1...

What is the manufacturing date codes of your tires?

It would be good if we could narrow down the batches that have this issue.

This is what I was able to compile from this thread:

3011 OK arter
3511 OK arter
5211 OK CanAutM3
3212 Spliced ortho281
3212 Spliced Sleeper519
3212 Spliced OC3
3412 Spliced CSBM5 (Guessing from Aug-12)
3512 Spliced 1MOREMOD
4112 OK warp10
