Fabspeed HFC's F'd my NYS inspection today

So as most of you I bought the Fabspeed HFC'c because they promised no CEL, which as most of us know - is complete bullshit since most have eventually gotten a CEL. For the most part I don't really care about the CEL cause it's very rare and random and after a couple hundred miles will clear itself.

Well today, as I was on my drive (1 hour away to dealership) today to get yearly service and inspection taken care of, the god damned HFC's decided today was a good day to set off a CEL.... Well needless to say emissions inspection failed...... The cleared the code for me, but now I have to wait some time (or however many drive cycles) to get all the sensors to pass the readiness test again so I can re-take the emissions part of my inspection.....

Talk about bad luck..... Had to happen on way to inspection appointment.

Still on their website:

# OBDII compliant, will not set of Check Engine Light.
# Complies with 49 state emissions and inspections.

LOL!

Sorry, I'll be in the same boat here in PA.

FYI - you can google the drive cycle details and run through them I believe to speed up the process. Also, a lot of scanners can tell you which readiness tests have passed and which still need to pass.

Good luck man.

Yep... I'll just drive it for a week and then schedule a new inspection. Only need the emissions part. Kinda bullshit though that Fabspeed was only able to sell me the system based on the fact they told me it wouldn't throw a CEL and sure enough, on the ride to the inspection there it goes.

I bought it under the same false advertising. I actually get a CEL about once a week - every single time it's when I'm on partial throttle at 3000-3200 RPM or so.

Wow that sucks - sorry to hear, hope you are able to get it sorted for the next test. Hope fabspeed does something to rectify this - complete BS!

Sucks man. Try putting your stockies back on?
Maybe New York is the one state that's excluded from all the other states.

Yep partial throttle at 3,100 RPM cruising on the highway....

As long as I don't get a new CEL over the rest of this week and weekend everything should be fine and reset to test the emissions part again Monday.

Have the same complaint with Fabspeed. Was promised it would not throw a CEL and they still advertise that it will not. Funny, they took off running from this board once things started coming out. They used to be a sponsored vendor then just disappeared once the CELs started to happen....... Wish they were upfront about it at least....

I eventually tuned the CEL out.

Sorry to hear that man! Until a company makes 100% CEL-proof HFC's, I'm either going to wait or just cut the last 2-cats & resonators off. And no, I don't want any s/w bypassing it for me (call me paranoid, LOL).

Yeah, I had a scanner that I used to clear the codes before I tuned it out, but the issue that we are all complaining about is the Fabspeed claimed and still continues to claim that it will not throw a CEL. That is bullshit.

Yeah, that's a matter of ethics in their advertising, I'm with you there. I was just suggesting the OP get a scanner to avoid the CEL issue from causing him more problems. Either that, do a reflash, or go back to stock. The scanner's the cheapest and quickest workaround.

Justin sorry to hear about your bad luck man. Did you contact Fabspeed? I was one of the first people to have this system with no CEL for the first 3 months, and then, it happened. I was livid "after spending all that money I sill get a CEL this is complete bullshit." So I contacted Fabspeed, they invited me over to the shop and corrected the issue by putting a 2 1/2" O2 bunge extension that sits at a 90 degree angle in the HFC's. Since then I did not get a CEL and it's been about 8 months since I was there. I'm sure if you contact them they will ship you out the extensions at no charge and your local tech can easily install them. Fabspeed is a very reputable company, I've been dealing with them for years and can tell you one thing they will not tarnish their name over $10 O2 bunge extensions. Hope this helps you bro...GL

The extenders don't work 100%. I know of several people that have tried them and eventually they still get a CEL. It is supposed to move the O2 sensors out of the stream of the exhaust and thereby tricking the ECU into not throwing a CEL. Doesn't work though. I wish Fabspeed and everyone else would just be honest about the CEL. I have their full setup and like the gains, it just rubs me that they promote it as not setting off a CEL.
