ADV1 or DPE? which is the better wheel?

Both have the design style I'm currently looking at but I need historical information on both to determine which is the better product.

Is ADV1 in any way related to "360 forged" if so... I will probably stay away based on their reputation.

What I really need to know is manufacturer reputation in order of precedence.

I.e. ADV1>DPE>VMR

I realize a lot of it is subjective, I'm just looking to avoid the "oh shit" I didn't know that after I make my purchase.

Appreciate the inputs.

you cant go wrong with either company.
but to be safe i say go with DPE, its probably cheaper and you can almost design your own wheel with them.

Explains why they are so similar in design. I haven't priced ADV's but I'm being told they are more expensive and was wondering if it's because they have more prestigious applications or better reputation in the market.

OP needs to look at quality over looks, not to mention the weight of the wheel. I'd rather have EOM forged or ZCP cast than either.

Both DPE and ADV are forged wheels. I'm looking for quality and looks. If I can't get that with either, that is the type of information I'm looking for.

I'm very familiar with the brands such as Volk, ADVAN, BBS, Rays coming from the import tuner and Honda S2000 scene.

Just looking for experience forum members input on some of the brands I'm not familiar with that provide wheels for the European cars.

I was about to pull the trigger on VMR's before I realized that there were a few quality issues and decided to not take the chance.

I like the design of the OEM ZCP and the RAC RG63's but I want "aftermarket" wheels. I see no point in buying different model OEM wheels. However I do want wheels that can out perform them. ZCP's are HEAVY.....

If you're familiar with Volk/Advan/BBS, then don't downgrade to these ADV1 or DPE.
Sure they are decent rims but do you have a decent car?

Put what belongs, dont cheap out and be all show and no go. Volks/BBS or go home.

btw, LMB is banned, prob cuz he revealed the truth about the Miami wheel company that comes out every 3 weeks.

I spoke to him (LMB) not too long ago and he is not banned...just choosing to stay away from the wheel threads

OP,
DPE and ADV.1 both use the same forgings (which come from CA) but I dont think they are made in the same facility.

As of right now you cant go wrong either way. I havent read one bad story about ADV.1 thus far nor DPE.

There are slight differences between the two so it is pruely up to your taste.

Wheel Selection Info

Who knows which wheel is better? I sure don't. I haven't seen any test results or certification information on either the DPE or ADV1 wheels. Fortunately there is quite a bit of information on this site to help you make an informed choice about which wheels to choose depending on your needs.

The following is Lemans Blue M comparing Dinan and other Taneisha manufactured wheels to HRE. He addresses multi-piece "boutique" wheels at the end of the posting. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...3&postcount=14

This one is a sticky thread in this forum which reviews the various wheel manufacturing methods and the benefits and downsides of each method: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=357430

This is another sticky thread in this forum. It covers wheel performance standards: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=353224

As others have said, the brands that you know from your previous experience are a good bet as they have long term industry & user reputations, and they certify that they meet the various industry standards. In addition, if you look around this forum, you will find references to other wheels such as Apex, Alufelgen, and CCW that are building solid reputations with the people on this site. If weight, quality, durability, and fitment are you primary objectives, it's my belief that you can't beat the RAC RG63.

Well OP here is my two cents. Back in Dec 2008 I ordered a set of 360 Forged Mesh 8 wheels and never received them even after 3 months. I had to dispute the charges with my CC company and that was the only way I got my money back. As far as I know ADV1 is the same company/sister company of 360 Forged and for this reason when I was looking to get another set of wheels (after selling my Klassen wheels) I chose not to go with ADV1. Instead I went with BBS CH-R in 19" sizing for the M3 (still waiting for them). I have found that the BBS wheels do very well in the used market when it comes time to sell them, whereas wheels such as HRE, Klassen, DPE, etc take a huge hit in price. Hope this helps you out a bit.

ADV is separate from 360 now... as far as I've read. Forged Distrubuted bought up 360 and all their crap that was left behind.
ADV is from the former owner of 360- who ruined a very good up and coming company.

OP, just because a wheel if forged, does not mean it's the same as another forged wheel. The links above will help explain it.

I believe Le Mans Blue was temporarily banned and crimsone90 was permanently banned. I`m guessing LMB got tired of trying to inform members and having his posts/threads blocked/deleted.

OP, if you tell me exactly what you are looking for I can guide you in the right direction.

Thanks for these links. A lot of good info. From what I`m reading neither have a "bad" reputation and that ADV has had historical affiliations with 360 forged.

Appreciate all the inputs... I`m reconsidering my options now.

I`m surprised that HRE`s are in that category. Aren`t they considered to be one of the best?

Not even close, especially for what they charge.

+1.

OP, don't buy anything that would benefit the original owner of 360 Forged (ADV). He screwed a lot of people and wasted the company's money.
