Yes. I think the NT01s are like a shaved street tire. But I'm all about cost. I like lap times but I'd rather go slower and drive more. If were to go with something else (I'm not) I would be back on street tires so I can slide and drift more.

I bought three sets of 17x255 NT01s for my race season (E36 chassis) and was nervous... Good news is that I ran my first set this past weekend. Their prod date is 4312. No splicing / delamination whatsoever. I ran them hard too - two practice sessions (20 mins), two qualifying sessions (10 mins) and four 30 minute races in GTS3. Took them a full day to scrub in (typical) and by Sunday they were speeding up nicely.

I'm planning to use my remaining supply and will probably be shopping again in August for my trip to N. California in Sept, so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Sh*t, maybe I'll just make the jump to Hoosiers...

Nitto is pissing me off.. I'm pasting a email response from Jim at performance Tread.

*********************************************

Jim this is simply not acceptable and I’m appalled at Nitto’s response.

The tire spliced after just one track day – that is a warranty issue, clear as day.

Regardless of which tire I go to – Nitto needs to do the right thing.

If you say this is outside of your control, then please send me the Nitto contact information. I will follow up with them directly.

Thanks
Vivek

They are not going to do anything about it, I had a long battle with all of the parties involved. I say you go to a different tire per our discussion. I am really not happy with the as we sell a ton of these tires and I am seriously concerned about my customers as this is a track tire.

Just deal directly with Nitto. Their customer service person's contact info has been posted already in this thread.

Which brings up a good point -- are all of the tires people have had issues with 275/35-18 size? (Mine were).

Set of (4) 275/35/18, production date "5211". Tires were great and I ran them until they started to cord, no splicing at all.

My 245/40/18 on my Porsche are fine so far and there are no complaints in Rennlist about this problem. I wonder if the problem is with 275 width tires. My tires are 4112.

I've seen this issue several times since starting to use nt01's in 2006 and have just kept driving on the tires; never had them separate from the tire. It helps a lot to rotate the tires frequently.

Just finished two-day event with the new Toyo Proxes RR. So far, so good. Mounted them using Toyo's recommended orientation to avoid the tread splice opening up, and rotated them diagonally for day two. 10 heat cycles and looking good. Stickier than the Nitto NT01s, and less noisy, but they still chirp/squeal a bit as you approach the limit.
