Like the E46 and E46M3, the hood is different in dimensions from the regular E92 to the E92 M3. the measurements are very similar but the line curves are different on each hood and its respective fenders.

I looked in your garage and while your 335 is very nice, I dont get why you need the power dome. I dont see a V8 or some massive S/C needing the bulge to fit around it...just for looks? I would think that there are better aftermarket hoods out there that would fit better with your aero kit...just my .02

I don't see anything either that would call for an M3 hood.

Can anyone here suggest how I can put a 599GTB hood on my 09 M3? I already have the rims and seats, but am lacking the hood and steering wheel. Also, how hard would it be to replace the M3 badge with a Ferrari badge?

Isn't putting an M3 hood on a 335D a bit like stuffing a rolled up athletic sock down the front of your pants when you go to the high school dance?

It's highly unlikely you're really going to fool anyone, and if you do she (he?) is going to be awfully disappointed when they learn the truth.

The bulge in the M3 hood is not to fit around anything, its purpose is to create extra air space in the engine compartment for cooling, I've seen a video about this on BMW website. I'm sure BMW could have gotten the equivalent extra air volume from a slight redesign in the hood height, so IMO the "power dome" on the M3 is really for looks.

Some people like to do stuff just because they can/want to. I wish I had the time/money to do fun stuff like this.
An M Hood can't be cheap.

Also think about how much this guy will know about hoods after this

um, wouldn't this question have been best asked BEFORE you bought the hood?

IIRC, the power dome is necessary to fulfill pedestrian safety rules.

Of course it is a bit about looks, but the power dome is functional in the sense that it provides the extra room necessary for the V8. I don't think that a bulge-less hood would fit on the M3.

i'm wondering this also...with all those mods you already have on your car, i would have guessed that you would have researched it before you bought it.

south is correct...the bulge on the hood complies with DOT pedestrian safety regulations by reducing frontal impact force on the human body in the case that you run down a pedestrian. it also acts as a pillow for the human head at the time of impact.

if you were about to get run over
what better way to cushion your head than a power dome!
if i was going to get runover
i'd rather be run over by an M3

Not to knock you but what makes your 335d better than a M3? Its been done and said here many times that a modded/chipped/enlarged turbos 335 is not anywhere near as good as a M3 overall.

Again if you spent all that money to mod a 335d to make it better than a M3, why did you not buy a M3?

Remember when Pontiac tried to stuff a big V8 into the Fiero hoping to make it a Ferrari? See what happened to the Fiero? Remember the Corvetterrossa? Or even the Fierossa?

Its silly to spend all that money trying to make your car into something its not. With all respect, it's great that your car "performs better in a straight line and around corners" than an M3. If you are so proud of the fact that it is a 335d that is better than a M3, then why try to make it a look like an M3 and not keep it looking like a 335?

Wouldn't it be better to have it as a fox in a hen suit rather than a hen in a fox suit?

Not another 335 vs. M3 debate! Please post somewhere else as I don't think anyone cares.

You know you should have checked the specs of the hood before buying. I think the answer is that it won't fit. So either return the hood or buy the fenders, and front bumper as well.

You said you came on this board looking for help and not criticism but why wouldn't you go ask your dealer these questions before you bought it?

Maybe because the dealer would have laughed in your face while taking your money and selling it to you so you would look like a fool. Next he will even sell you a M3 badge so you can put it on your car also. You might as well put the badge on. Heck how come you didn't get the side gills of the M3 on your car? I've seen them on Honda Accords, Toyota Camries, Dodge Chargers, and Chrysler 300. At least your car is in the same family.

With all the b/s M3 vs 335 debate aside, the E92 M3 hood is longer than the regular E92 hood, so you would need to do the entire front end conversion to make it fit. Actually, there are aftermarket look-alike M3 hoods made for the E92 non-M.
