E92 w/ moonroof worth it?

Hey everyone, I'm currently in the market for an e92 M3 and found one that is equipped exactly how I want, in the color I want with low miles. The only problem is, the car has the moonroff option instead of carbon fiber. I actually like having a moonroof, but am worried about what possible detractions it would have compared to the carbon fiber. In your opinions, would this be a good move to make or should I wait to find one with the CF?

Here is a description of the car:

E92 M3
Melbourne Red
Premium Package
Cold Weather Package
19" Wheels
Moonroof

Wait..... don't settle.

CF looks better (subjective)
CF is lighter weight
Moonroofs never get used (subjective)

I can't live without my moonroof. Unless it is raining it is always open. I will admit that the CF looks awesome though, but I would be claustrophobic. My other 'car' is a Jeep and my Sunrider soft top sunroof is always open too. It's a personal choice though. Good luck!

My 2011 ZCP has a moonroof. I use it all the time. Have had one on the last 4 cars at least. I personally cannot go without it. I'm not worried about resale because first I may NEVER sell and second I've rarely heard someone say they didn't buy the car because it had a moonroof. I've heard plenty say they passed because it didn't. I understand the CF roof is special but if it's the RIGHT car for whomever, especially as rare as these are gonna be, they're gonna buy. I'm not worried.

I subjectively agree with you. But hey, if you like the moonroof, why not? I agree though, don't settle. If you want CF, then get CF. If you want moonroof, get moonroof. If you have no preference, just get this car since it's what you want.

Other than the look there is absolutely no negative side to having the moonroof. Yes it's lighter but you will never push your car to the point where you would notice the difference. If it's everything you're looking for, don't let the roof prevent you from getting the car you want.

i was in the same boat with my new one. Had a moonroof on my 335 and never used it, but it wasn't a deal breaker when I found a car with everything else I wanted. Ended up getting it, hardly ever gets used, and doesn't look bad- just a few extra lines. But this is coming from someone who thinks exposed CF looks really tacky, so I wasn't too keen on going the CF roof route either.

I don't think you're going to get a concrete answer on this one.

I had the same issue. Found the perfect car.....well, with a moonroof, but otherwise perfect. Difference I guess is that its an E90. Made the decision easier for me. I will have it Tuesday.....

Exactly.

Personally I opted out of the moonroof - had chronic issues with it in an E46 ( they kept fixing it and the parts kept failing) and then didn't have it in last car and found I didn't miss it.

Perhaps you can use it to negotiate the price down considering it is a $$ option you do not necessarily want..

its all completely subjective. I had a moonroof on my 335 at first didnt use it, but over the past year began using it more often. Now I got a e92 with CF roof. I completely love the look, but at times I DO MISS the moon roof. Especially over the past two weeks since I got my car and the weather has been gorgeous. My wife got a little pissed that I didnt get the moonroof. Performance wise I agree with the above post that unless you are a Pro you wont notice the difference. Get what you want!! You cant go wrong, You are still getting an M3.

The moonroof makes the car noticably quieter, it's a big plus for me. Personally I'm going with a very similar combo and just doing a carbon overlay on my roof. That way I have the best of everything.

I waited 11 months to find just the right car for me, don't settle.

How may cars with sunroofs do you see? How many cars with CF do you see?

All my previous BMW's (7 of them), all had sunroofs or verts, but the allure to me of the E92 was the CF roof, otherwise I might still be in my E46.

This may be the ONLY BMW dilemma where either answer is acceptable to all.

I have had two e92 m3's.

previous one with CF

and now one with a moonroof

before getting my first m3, i really wanted CF because it was so different (unique).

your concern shouldnt be weight. you won't notice the difference at all so ignore all that gibberish about less weight etc. there would be zero difference if any of us drove on a track with a moonroof or without a moon roof.

I was never a fan of mooonroofs but now that my new e92 has a moonroof. it is always open and the air is great.

Just make sure you pick whichever you want for the right reasons and which you would enjoy more.

best of luck

+1. And don't let anyone tell you that you HAVE to get it for uniqueness blah blah blah. The E90 sedan and the convertables are still M3's in every sense of the word (Maybe a tad less so for the vert) even without the CF roof. The unique thing is the mighty V8 and superb handling - And that my friend, is in every model.
