Akra Evo installed courtesy of EAS
I have to thank the crew at EAS once again for their great work and help
I went in to have an Akra Evo installed and they got the work done promptly and efficiently. They helped adjust the tips for me and I must apologize for being picky.... and I really appreciate EAS getting adjusting them the way I like them Also, while I was there, Tom was able to update my SmartTop for me As well as code my car. I wasn't even scheduled for that stuff (only for exhaust) but I'm glad they were able to get me in even though they were extremely busy Here are a quick couple pics I snapped: She's naked No longer naked: The AA HFC Xpipe that was removed (and has now found a lucky new owner! I really liked the AA but with my heavy vert, I needed the weight reduction :P). Been meaning to work on my own weight reduction...if you know what I mean...but i keep eating delicious meals.. Haven't driven all that much with the Akra yet, but I have to say, it is considerably louder than the AA HFC Xpipe + stock rear My only real issue so far with the Akra is that on a cold start, the damn thing is WAY too loud. It hurts my ears Thinking of going to Jeremy@OE and having him remove the cold start 02 warm up process. Thing is too damn loud (unless windows are up...then it's fine). The Akra does smell a bit more though...which to me doesn't matter but my girl doesn't like it. For the little driving I've done (maybe 100 miles?), I can notice a small drop in low end torque (around 2k rpm?) but I can feel a increase in power on WOT, esp past around 3100 or so. My tune was designed with my AA, so I may need to get a new tune. Thoughts/opinions on this matter? I do love the way the tips look, much better than OEM. Why the hell are the OEM tips so damn small is beyond me.... I love the deep tone of the Akra, but do miss the raspy-ness of the AA with stock, especially on rev-matched downshifts. I think I just need to drive the Akra more and track it to really get to love it. The reason I went with the Akra Evo is that a friend of mine (member on here) let me take his e93 with Akra Evo for a small drive and I love the sound. I was on the border so he just helped push me over the edge. He did warn me that I need to get my wallet out once I drive his car lol and he was right. So in conclusion: I'm happy with the Akra, but not in 'love' as many seem to be. Disclaimer: All this happened in my dreams, I don't own a BMW

Congrats...
Yes, Cold start is totally brutal with the Akra. I got it tuned out. Now everyone around me doesn't look at me funny anymore when I first start the car.

I don't know why you say it's loud on cold startup. Mine isn't loud at all. Or maybe we have different definition of loud. Do you have the Akrapovic x-pipe as well or something else?

The cold start is very loud without a tune, it just boomed in the garage in the morning. Now with the tune it is very quite on cold start. The first time I heard the car after the exhaust was installed, I was like OMG what have it done...
I highly recommend a tune with the exhaust, after the tune there is more power everywhere.

Congrats, I love my Akra Evo. The smell will go away soon. I agree, the cold start up is brutal, but it has grown one me
IMO it would be better to get a tune to maximize the Akra setup...it is possible to tune out that low end torque drop, from what I've read.

Well I have a tune, it's just that my custom dyno tune was done when I had my AA Xpipe
Hence why I need to get a new tune done

Yea, I read that in your first post, but there is a tune out there specifically for the Akrapovic Evolution exhaust that addresses that low end torque drop. There are a few posts on this site that talk about it. Both ESS and Evolve offer this tune.

But OE has never failed me and from the cars I've driven (BMW or not), OE flashes have far exceeded my expectations. Hence why I'm loyal No way am I saying ESS/Evolve are not good tunes, just that IMO OE is better. But I don't want this thread to turn into a X tune vs X tune etc. Plus, I prefer to have a custom dyno tune than a regular flash I also have a MS Pulley and MS Filter that would prly need to be taken into account I mean, I have these in my dreams Don't actually have them

Akra evo is awesome, even though you claim no to "love" it, but it will be hard to get you to switch to anything else. Let us know how you like oe tune for akra once you have it done.
