E90 M3 DCT vs X5M.....nice vid!

Don't know if this is a repost or not, apologies if it is. This is a straight line drag race from 50 -250kph on a private airfield under controlled conditions (not a street race) in Sweden...............before you watch the vid.......who is your money on M3 Sedan DCT or X5M???????????

Enjoy:

The X5M would have the edge up to 60mph then the M3 would pull away.

Nice. It is so with RWD M cars, slower at start, but gets advantage at higher speed.

wouldnt the engine setup (na high rev vs twin scroll turbo) be more of a factor than RWD vs AWD?

Lots of factors to be taken into account IMO

4WD drive train loss vs RWD
high revving NA vs TT
weight
drag cohefficient
transmission

etc etc

Drag and the shape of the X5 lost this one for him.

X5 also had a 1/2 car length head start. I'm not sure how the X5M delivers all that massive torque to the tires from a stand still vs. a perfect launch in the DCT car.

M3 wins of course, aerodynamics play a big roll here.

The X5 has launch control, too. It also has AWD. Off the line, it's no surprise that the X5 can take the M3.

I think he means useless as an M car......the X5M is over a second slower than a Nissan 370Z around the Top Gear track - very impressive for a 4x4 but not so great for a $100000 M car.

There is a reason the M division told BMW they didnt want to build this car, in the end the marketing men won.

BMW needed a competitor to the ML63 and Cayenne Turbo/Turbo S.
I don't fault them tapping their performance divsion to do that.
SUVs that can turn 'ring times close to the E46 M3 are pretty impressive.

I think after after 80 mph the M3 can reel it in. But stop light to stop light, the X5M launches more consistently

I feel like it would be the other way around, considering the X5M is heavier and has more HP..

Still, dont you feel just a little bit cheated out when you look at your seats? I just dont think they are awesome enough.... thats my only complaint of the car.

not at all, i think it depends how you see it. Even though i enjoy my m3, but i am also addicted to that truck. which part do you think X5M is not good enough comparing to other performance SUVs in the market? for X5M price, you will only be able to get a Porsche GTS. Well you may say it is Porsche, but I prefer performance. i didn't like any SUV until i drove tht X5M.

Seems like aerodynamics played a role in the end?
