E92... I don't know, becouse I found this vid on YT. Upload date: 2008, so I think it's from that year. E60 is from '09, my friend has this car... But it doesn't matter, and the subject has been clarified

Nice visualizations - thanks for sharing. I'm not sure I understand the 3D aspect though. I assume one axis is somehow quantifying accelerator position and another throttle position? What is the other axis? Power?

It would be cool to see a Sport+ plot too.

... my '06 E46 ZCP had a 'Sport' button that did what my '09 E92 'Power' button does. BMW should have continued calling it 'Sport'.

They needed a new name because there is both Sport and Sport+ now. They could have still labeled the button "Sport", I guess (since it cannot activate the Sport+ Power setting), but then people might get confused since EDC also has a "Sport" setting. Also, they still needed a new name to use in the MDrive menu in IDrive.

Pressing the power button does not add ANY horsepower. Not even one.

However, it does change the throttle mapping which causes the throttles to open much sooner/quicker, due to the steep throttle climb in the sport throttle map. This gives the impression of more power (and in a sense, it actually is). Imagine the car thinking that you pressed the gas down further than you really did.

Ironically, in the code, the values for sport throttle are higher in some areas than the values for normal throttle. That could potentially mean that it may generate slightly more HP. I'll have to leave it at that.

Here is a picture so you guys can actually see the real difference between throttle and sport modes in the stock programming.

You might also notice why a tune would seriously benefit the way the car performs in terms of smoothness and drivability. Many of my customers absolutely love the apparent enhancements to power delivery (more linear and smoother over stock), aside from the other great benefits the tune has.

I believe Eurotuner did a test when they installed GIAC's software in their M3 build series which is in the back.

Forget what setting they did back-to-back dyno comparisons with (either Power or MDM) but there was a bump in low end torque although there was no increase in the max ratings.

I was interrupted while I was reading it in the store...kids were tearing stuff up. So I had to put it down and handle things. Now its sold out.

I find it's a good way to figure out which used M3 to avoid. AKA it's the guy who has no idea what he's doing and thinks sport (now.. unfortunately.. called power) gives them more power. Ugh.. we went through this with the E46 but the issue just.. won't... die..

Also anyone who's been to a track day knows the throttle works a heck of a lot better when in normal mode.

Why is this even an argument?

1. Start car.
2. Press power (or M) button.
3. Enjoy.
