First ride after 1200 mile service!

Holy shit!

I have to say that I am thoroughly amazed by the power that this car delivers all the way to 8400 RPM. Simply incredible. My poor 335 has just been sitting now for two weeks. Sad to say, that it is on its way out the door. But, oh well. It will be tough, but I'll get over it.

So, first drive entering freeway on-ramp in E90 M3 DCT. M mode using paddles. Floored it, saw the rev warning lights, right paddle.. shift up see the red warning lights, look down at speedometer and I am approaching 80 MPH! Decided to back off. Got on the freeway. Clear section, no cars. Switched back to M mode dropped it down a couple of gears to hit 6,000 rpm. Floored it to 8400, bounced off rev limiter shifted up and looked down and now I am at 120 mph.

Conclusion. I am moving to Germany!

Wundervoll!

Car makes plenty of power and pulls strong everywhere in the rev range.

The only thing is in manual mode it is hard to shift exactly at redline. I either hit the limiter in first or shift too early as it sucks having to anticipate when the car will shift after pulling the stick or paddle.

Unfortunately, I think I will spend most of the time in traffic below speed limit. It is a rare occasion that the car can be driven hard.

Reminds me of when I took the car home after picking it up from the dealership after my 1200mi service. I'm up to 4200 miles now, and the car feels like it's getting faster (it's a bit louder in the exhaust).

I love this car...

I have a hard time looking straight ahead at traffic and watching the tach in manual mode. Right now the majority of shifts occur at 6500 RPM when floored in auto mode. I wish there was a way to set M mode to be in automatic with shifts occurring at 8300 RPM. That would be sweet!

Hmm, in the highest auto mode it should shift at redline when floored.

True try to shift at 5500 hit it at 6000 instead. Power during the shift is nice though.

What do you mean by highest auto mode? What settings?

I looked to see if auto could be selected in M mode and I didn't see it on the "M Settings" menu.

Contrary, to the "drive it like you stole it-theory" the engine isn't completely broken in until 3-5k miles. Progressive aggressiveness should be applied. It's not like the engine fairy waved her wand at precisely 1200 miles and the result was a thoroughly broken in engine.

By the way, my dealer told me when I purchased the car that it could only be operated in S mode in M settings. I have figured out that you can select D mode. I would like to know what settings other DCT owners are using to get higher RPM since my car has just barely reached 1200 and I am new to the whole concept.
