I'm dedicated to Shell 91 + Air Miles. Sorry i refuse to do anything else unless its absolute vodka.. i mean desperation; I think we are going to need at least 1 fill up (assuming u are already fueled up before Ajax); I going to update our cruise route map with some Gas Station if the our trip director RO_Turbo can make some suggestions.

If there are any early birds, you can hit up this one before u meet up in the lot Shell Near Ajax GO Station

+1 .. Longest I've done is about 150km in a day, but it wasn't a road trip; just alot of leisure driving. Infact I dont go by the clicks anymore; I just watch wait for each 1/4 tank to drop and call it day.

I will keep track of fuel consumption on this trip.

Last year my trip to Alberta and back I averaged 10.5/100 KM (that was in my AW / FR with MT). I will see what I will now get with my M-DCT when I will strictly let the computer do the shifting

BTW I only tank at Shell using V-Power Premium Gasoline ...

There is a Shell right near by ... only 2.7 KM east on Bayly from the randevous point.

Been using Costco 91 since they opened the Ajax location last fall.
It does say upto 10% ethanol like most other places.

I switch to shell 91 which I think still has no ethanol for track days.

Haven't had any issues, so I don't see your point. The topic has been beaten to death, with no hard evidence.

I know this gets debated over and over again. I've been putting Costco gas in my cars for a long time and have never had a problem.

I contacted Costco myself a while back to find out where there gas comes from and this was the reply I received:

"Dear valued member,

Thank you for your recent inquiry through Costco.ca.

Costco purchases its gasoline from Petro Canada or Shell through vendors. Our pumps are the most technologically advanced units and our gas filters are regulated very stringently to ensure our members are receiving the best quality of gasoline available.

If you have any further inquiries, please reply to this e-mail or call our member service agents at 1-800-463-3783, Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST. They will be happy to assist you.

Maybe Shell adds extra additives after they sell Costco their gas and charge the consumer a lot more for their marketing gimmicks ... but for me .. I've never had a problem with Costco gas ... It's significantly cheaper and most of the times when I go there, there's only 2-3 cars in front of me.

I just called the Duke of Marysburgh Pub & Bistro, they are open for lunch. I've eaten there before and the food was good. They may not have the biggest selection but what they do offer is good.

http://www.dukeofmarysburgh.com/

I'm certainly not married to the place it's just another option.

The Duke is also on the same road as the other two restaurants just a little closer to Picton.

Julie

I was wondering if you can sort of fudge a route map by setting up way points.

On the google maps page once you have set your location what happens if you don't select your final destination. Instead select a point along your route that you wish to go through. Then select add a destination. This allows you to set a series of way points along the route. It may not always pick the exact road you want, but if you set enough way points I think you can come close.

I haven't tried this yet but I just sent a test map to my car to see if it will work.

Yeah I've always tried to figure out 100% which channels provide the best range... below is some reading on the matter which suggests channels 1-7 are only low-power at 0.5 watt. We should also account for the fact that some people may have older radios which only operate on FRS frequencies, so if we use GMRS then they won't be able to participate. Perhaps best we just decide on a frequency once in Ajax, or we could go with #3 for now and hopefully that works for everyone?

In Canada, hand-held GMRS radios up to 2 watts have been approved for use without a license since September 2004. Typically these are dual FRS and GMRS units, with fixed antennas, and operating at 2 watts on some GMRS channels and 0.5 watts on the FRS-only channels.

Many hybrid radios have an ERP that is lower than 0.5 watts on channels 1-7, or can be set by the user to operate at low power on these channels. This allows hybrid radios to be used under the license-free FRS rules if the ERP is less than 0.5 watts and the unit is certified for FRS operation on these frequencies.

In the United States of America operation on channels 15-22 require an FCC GMRS license. Channels 8-14 are exclusively for FRS. Accordingly, GMRS operation is not allowed on these channels. Channels 15-22 are reserved exclusively for GMRS. As noted, FRS operation is not allowed on these channels.

Here is more info... so it appears we should be using channels 15-22 for GMRS and full wattage.

http://gmrs.ca/

FRS and GMRS share 7 channels. On these 7 shared channels GMRS radios are limited to just 500 mW (1/2 Watt) which is the maximum power allowed on FRS channels.

I haven't tried that.

I just know that if, even when you are not trying to send a custom route to the BMW Nav, you can see one route in Googlemaps and then, after you've sent it to your car, the BMW Nav can set another route to the same destination.

In the past, I've tried to send myself a few key waypoints. That way, it'll have more of a chance of mimicking Googlemaps.

let us know if it works.

Those of you with Garmin GPS units, I've created a Garmin Route using Mapsource which you can grab from here:

12-05-05_PEC_BMW_Cruise.gdb

I also converted the Google route into GPX format which may work in a Garmin and other GPS units as well. Grab that here:
