Hey everyone,
So I drive a 2011.0 M3, and I am trying to figure out a way to play music audio on my car from my iPhone. I?ve tried an aux cable with the dongle adapter and the audio quality is awful. Pre 2011.5 M3?s can?t stream Bluetooth audio. I?ve tried a USB cable straight to the phone but it says device not recognized. Anyone have suggestions? I am familiar with Tune2air, but is there a way to have a direct connection and play music?

The media y cable shouldn't be that bad. Is the BMW Y cable you're using old or new? If I were you I'd buy a combox. It replaces your old crap in the trunk. It requires coding and re wiring but it's easy and all the info is out there.

A new combox is a good idea, but may be pricey.

The best solution for me is to get a small sized USB flash and just copy my music collection to it. No fumbling with Y-cables, combox, and coding. Though I did consider going with the combox route multiple times, but finally decided that it's way more cost effective to use a $10 32gb USB.

Thank you! I will look into this.
Problem is, I use Spotify and stream my music. The hard drive idea, while a good one - wouldn't necessarily work in my situation.

That cable will facilitate apps. It was the only way I could get the mlap timer to work before I installed the snap in adapter.

I just got the Combox upgrade from Bimmertech on my 09. Now streams music via bluetooth or lightning cable into the USB port. Very noticeable increase in sound quality over using Aux with my EPS system, would recommend.
Only negative is mine was initially showing album artwork and controllable via the steering wheel, but when I drove the car yesterday it wasn't. My software is very old though which may be the issue. Either way I'm happy with the sound quality bump, and the fact my iPhone 7 can now be charging and plugged into the system simultaneously. |

A max file size supported by FAT32 is also 4GB. I went with the Tune2Air route because I stream online radio and don't have static music on my phone. Combox option is roughly $500-700 depending on parts used.. |

Find a 2011.5 car and compare? I can't imagine a soundspace that is as noisy as a car cabin will benefit that greatly from a wired solution listening to lossy audio.

I have the Tune2Air in my 2009 m3 for abt a year now , it work perfectly with my first iphone5 and did not with my second iphone 5, i think it was faulty , but with my new iphone SE it works perfect again and the sound in awesome , I can skip to the next song using the controls on my steering wheel and when i push the mute button on the volume knob on the dash it pauses the song on my iphone ,which is a great feature !
