Challenge Sport X-Pipe Install

I just dropped my car off at a muffler shop to have this installed on my 2011 E92 M3. The shop is claiming that the bracket used for the OEM x-pipe is tack welded and must be removed, sanded slightly, and then welded back on to accommodate the Challenge.

It was my understanding that the Challenge x-pipe is a direct bolt on to the rear OEM muffler section.

I highly doubt it, as I purchased the car with under 10,000 miles and have looked underneath as well and it looks stock.

Here is a pic of the bracket. You can see the 4 bolts holding it in place. This is how it should look if it hasn't been modified.
That piece is not welded on

Thanks for the input, guys.

Someone else at the shop just had a look and said no modification was necessary. I was told the first shop employee is new.

Can't wait to feel the additional power and see how this changes the exhaust sound!

That's good, last thing you want is a newb firing up a cutting torch on your car

Cool, thanks. My only concern is some possible raspiness paired with the OEM exhaust. I'm waiting for a used Eisenmann Sport to be available. Hard to stomach the prices of aftermarket parts, especially when new, plus I want to get a tune.

When I started looking at exhaust parts there was some major sticker shock, especially coming from a 2000 S4 which I had modded. But, I tell myself ' hey, if that's what makes you happy and it's not interfering with house, family and other expenses, then go for it.'

Where in MD are you getting this done? I have been looking for good place to get the OEM exhaust mod at a reasonable price.

Have you decided where to get your tune??? I can make a recommendation for a great tuner here in MD. I was amazed at the power my car picked up. Check out my mods, and final RWHP. He has it now installing the AA Stage 2 Gen 2 kit.

So far I'm pleased with a noticeable increase in power along with a little more agressive exhaust tone without being obnoxious. There's some raspiness as well, but it's not overbearing.

Probably going with Mike Benivo, but I've heard good things about a guy who is Glen Burnie.

Where in MD do you live?
