For those who went 285/255 tires, did you feel an excessive amount of understeer since the stagger is more compared to the stock setup?

No none at all...love my setup wouldn't have it any other way with my ZCPs. If I move on to 19X10 and 19X11 then I move to 275/295 setup.

BTW, in fact the 255s seem to help with front grip.

Technically the wider 285 rear tire should induce more understeer right? How come it doesn't?

In theory it would add some understeer, but most drivers would probably not notice. If you take it to the track you might, but otherwise I would not be overly concerned.

The absolute grip level at the front should be higher given the wider tire, even though the grip relative to the rear may be slightly less. So your cornering limit should be slightly higher, but you would have a little more understeer when you do reach that limit.

I say should because tire type, inflation pressure, wheel width, suspension setup etc will all play a role. But all else being equal, that's how it works.

People spend too much time worrying about the size code and not enough time looking at the measurements. The 255/285 setups at least when you a GTS style with different front and rear aspect ratios, net you a slightly shorter tire in rear than in front, and a taller tire in front than stock. A bigger tire, whether wider or taller, sheds heat and maintains a consistent amount of grip better than a smaller tire for the same load. So yes you are adding some width stagger but you are totally eliminating height stagger. I would expect this setup to have more throttle-on oversteer than stock and a little more steady state push than stock if you took the time and actually measured the change in balance, and of course more overall grip once you dial it in with tire pressures

This setup is possible with 18" PSS as well, by the by. Trick is finding suitable wheels as the rears would be a little pinched on the 219M's. Doable but not optimal. The 18" EC7 in 9.5 and 10 would do the trick
