Vinyl Wrap Journey

This is my third time wrapping an e92 M3. First two times were my personal car. This third time is for my best friend's Jerez Black e92. For this wrap, I have been patient and taking my time. The results are 100 times better than my previous two wraps.

Big shout out to huyner328 for letting me borrow his garage and mdosu for showing up and providing moral support.

Color is 3M's Satin Pearl

Day 1: Front fenders wrapped. Took about 3 hours total including removal of side gills.

Day 2: Rear fenders and both doors/door handles wrapped. Took 7 hours total including removal and reinstallation of door handles (PITA).

Day 3: Planning to wrap side skirts and front/rear bumpers

Finished side skirts as well as front and rear bumper. Took 8 hours total including removal of front and rear bumpers. Sideskirts were wrapped on the car. The bumpers are the most difficult and time consuming due to complex curves and recesses.

Sleeping because we were up until 5am wrapping.

Day 4: Last day, planning to wrap hood and trunk as well as minor touchups through out the car. Took about 4 hours for hood, trunk, and rear spoiler.

FINISHED.

I hope this gives everyone a good understanding of how long a DIY wrap takes.

Feel free to PM me with any questions!

Crossing my fingers hoping that I won't screw up the directional thing. So far so good, all the panels match.

Dont even sweat that. We had a 3m rep come out and check out the wrap. Come to find out, it was printed on a faulty printer and the color had very slight variations as the roll printed. Thankfully they are warrantying the wrap and we received a new roll of Satin Pearl.

On a side note. I wrapped cars for 2 years, so some advice i can give it to a DIY vinyl wrap;

TAKE YOUR TIME, this is ALOT more difficult to do well then it seems
Stretch the vinyl is little as possible to avoid future failure points.
When cutting/using a razor, be very very mindful of the angle of the razor so you don't snag while cutting, and obviously very light pressure against paint so you don't cut into clear.
Do yourself a favor, and remove the front bumper to make it alot easier and reduce the amount of seems and overlap!

Any tips on the rear bumper? I keep getting wrinkles on the top where the bumper bends.

I'm subscribed to this thread - after seeing skooter's car - this might be enough to get me to pull the trigger on this.

Patients. Bumpers tend to be the most difficult areas of a vehicle to wrap. Honestly, I would look into have the bumpers done by someone who has been doing this for a long while. You can do them solo, for sure, but the keep is as few seems as possible and to make sure you have zero failure areas.

Looks nice. I keep wanting to do this but am worried I'll end up wasting 600$ on vinyl and mess it all up.

How much of a vinyl did you end up using and what was the cost? I was told 75x5ft roll and the cheapest I found it on ebay was about 650$
