Did you buy Extended Warranty? Please fill out Poll

If you bought it, please let me know which one you bought and were you able to negoitate a price better than MSRP?

I know the parts of the topic here may be been debated ad naseum. I'm not trying to debate the merits, I just want to know what package you actually bought out of pocket. Not what package was given to you from CPO Used car or extra warranty offered on your purchase or warranty work or anything unrelated.

If you're unfamiliar with the existing packages please visit this site to avoid confusion of terms and packages:

No poll to vote! But I did not get the Extended Warranty, yet. Am thinking about it though. What is the MSRP?

^yep, that's why I posted this, I'm getting ready to think hard about buying this. A bearing issue would cost you around $3k out the pocket about the price of one of those warranties.

Poll is up now, it took a while to write it as you can see. lol

Still under factory warranty but dont plan on buying an extended warranty.

We have many good independent BMW shops around here that i trust and hopefully can do the work when/if the time comes.

Most of these extended warranties are only good for an extra 2 years after factory warranty is over. Im willing to gamble that i wont have $4k+ (cost of some extended warranty) in repairs in those 2 years.

I bought extended Maintenance and Warranty. 1 1/2 brake job would pay for the maintenance. I've always heard from friends who owned BMW's that the parts are expensive so thought the extended warranty would serve as a good insurance policy. The F&I guy was willing to give me $500 off with me just hinting at it.

I'm not one to work on cars myself and have always preferred dealer service to make sure everything is done by the book.

I have two years to decide on this, I figure, but am interested in hearing people's thoughts. Also, price ranges for the various levels.

I heard that you can get 4 years or up to 100k miles for $4200 and pay over a 12 or 18 month period, no interest. Guy I talked to with an 08 M3 said he went to Passport BMW in the DC/MD/VA area to buy this. I'm going to Annapolis BMW to see what they offer.

Here in California the MSRP for EVP when I purchased the car was $3500 for Powertrain +, $5500 for Gold and $6000 for Platnum. This extends coverage up to 6 yr/100k miles and does not include maintenance.

Yes, you can bargain with them but don't expect much off the MSRP.

several months ago there was a thread collecting members who were interested in buying the EW..I am interested in platinum 6/100..I think if members of this forum got their act together we can get a good bargin from Steve Thomas..I bet 20 of us out there could do it..count me in if you start that.

instead of dropping 4k+ on the warranty, im using that money to buy a 4post car lift for my garage and complete set of shop tools...ill fix it myself...did all the maintenance/repairs for my e46 all the way up to 140k and the car is still running great..recently replaced the RTABs and radiator/cracked expansion tank..fun little projects...saved a ton too....imo, the only thing that is difficult about servicing a car is NOT having a lift and the proper tools...ill only be screwed if my engine or DCT blows up...

WoW $6000.00 for Platnum in Cali 6yr/100k not include maintenance thats just crazy. I paid $4400.00 for this exact package here in Texas and my wallet is still smoking. I can afford to pay for maintenance but when something goes wrong that makes this car go into limp mode its going to Cost $$$$ and I had to use my extended warranty twice already

I have read about another alternative to this.

Some dealers are actually CPOing cars (for a fee) and extending the warranty if warranty you are after. If you search you will find it.

The coat of maintenance is at break-even. What I am scared of is warranty issues.

If the sales team can cut deals when selling pre-owned cars, I'm sure (not really) there are deals to be made when you are buying just the protection.

Annapolis BMW had a special going on where they took $400 off of these plans for the month of July. So, I just missed it.

i'm sure if you ask for it, they might still grant it. These things are usually pretty fluid and flexible.

Have you decided on what protection you're going to get? I'm leaning between:

7yr/100,000 mile Powertrain + and Gold, although I think i'll be good on the Powertrain +. I wonder if they can bring down the price by upping the co-pay (standard is $50 copay).

I usually keep cars for about 4 years.

i'm thinking the cheapest, Powertrain +, 7 Year 70k (I have a low mileage car, probably won't hit 100k until 2016-7)
